Aug-28-01, 11:11 PM (EST) "CRUISE SHIP SIMULATOR!!!" Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows if Microsoft is planning on creating a Sim which lets u drive a cruise ship to different ports of call. I think that would be a great idea. Please let me know if anyone knows anything.
Thanks!

Aug-29-01, 09:43 AM (EST) 1. "RE: CRUISE SHIP SIMULATOR!!!" Sounds pretty dull to me. Hours and days of running across open ocean. Even the real ones run on auto pilot most of the time except when they are close to shore. Docking and anchoring under various conditions would be interesting, and an occasional storm would liven things up, but I don't see any long-term challenges for repeat playing. Besides, one of the cruise lines is sure to object that it would encourage someone to steal a cruise ship Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-29-01, 03:51 PM (EST) 3. "RE: CRUISE SHIP SIMULATOR!!!" Ilan Papini, of Hangsim.com has a virtual sailing program which includes several cruise boats. Pretty good sim, with addon's, scenery all over the world, etc. Go here for info:

Aug-29-01, 05:09 PM (EST) 5. "RE: CRUISE SHIP SIMULATOR!!!" Hey, why not? In order to spice up your dull sailor's life, it would, however, HAVE to include such niceties as perished foods leading to food poisoning among the crew/passengers, engine room fires, bow gates not properly closed on ferries, errant antiship missiles swarming in due to an error on the part of the other nation's naval commander, or maybe the dreaded Bermuda triangle swallowing your poor ship and spitting it out in a different space-time continuum. And as a follow-up, MS might produce a Ship COMBAT Simulator! This one would, of course, include ships from all eras when man had plied the oceans. Wouldn't it be interesting to see how a Greek trireme would do against the battleship Yamato, or some WWII Japanese naval bombers against today's AEGIS cruisers??? Ever since I saw that terribly wrong harbor scene in the movie Pearl Harbor (Spruance class DDs mingled in among those WWII battlewagons...anybody else noticed that, too???????!!!!!!), I have been asking myself that question...
Sorry, I must be terribly tired to write such a nonsensical ramble as this ...
