My G-scale layout in the snow! (Tons of pics!) – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-03 AT 02:53 PM (EST)

Yesterday, I shoveled about 2 feet of snow off of my G-scale layout, in my backyard. I decided only to run my PRR mogul (no. 2518) becasue it was to cold to go and get the coaches and freight cars from the garage!!! It got so cold, that I took my remote control (that sends a signal to the transformer, in the garage) and sat on the couch, which is behind a window that overlooks my layout. Only thing is, I had to go outside to refill the engine with smoke fluid about every 10 minutes. But it was worth it, and made for am awesome snow-filled steam locomotive adventure!! Funny thing is, I have a PRR engine, but every other car I own is D&RGW!!Here are some pictures!! EDIT: For Christmas, I got a water tank (Aristocraft) and the Silverton Station (Pola) but haven't put them out yet! The snow covered structures in the pictures are temporary, and are made of bricks and wood. ( I built them)My G-scale layout in the snow! (Tons of pics!) – image 2

RE: My G-scale layout in the snow!!! (Tons of pics!)

Cool! I have never seen an outdoor layout in the winter. I have seen layouts in summer outdoor settings but winter? That is awesome!
I wonder if they have a working snowplow engine that is powerful enought and can clear the snow for you.

RE: My G-scale layout in the snow!!! (Tons of pics!)

I saw somewhere that one G scale company offered a working rotary snow plow. I'm going to see if I can find pics of it.

Must admit.. I'd never get my N(atural) Scale engines to do that. Fantastic realism. Looks like Colorado winter.

Thanks Guys!!
YoungLIRR said: "can find out more about garden railways"www.gardenrailways.com is a good site. Just type in Garden Railroad in a search engine, and you'll get results. For the rest: Thanks for the comments! My Railroad is still in the building process. I need to add buildings, more plants, and other things. As for the track, it is done for now, although I hope to extend it later in this summer.1-2 inches of snow fell yesterday, so no. 2518 has some work to do!!I'll post more pics later, this time, with a whole train! (and some pictures of a smaller steamer too, which is in the "repair shops" now!)Thanks again!

Just thinking out loud, but if I had this opportunity I'd gut a boxcar, tear off the front wall, stick an 8mm camcorder in there, and record a few laps just for the realism of the snow effect. Wouldn't even bother with a transmitter/receiver setup, just get this memory permanent.

you shoveled it? really? if there was maybe an inch or so of snow, i would have a snowplow on front, followed by maybe two locos...and you get the idea. Where you at anyway? almost looks like Minnesota right now. Thats what i love about garden railroads, theyre somewhat weatherproof! My G-scale layout in the snow! (Tons of pics!) – image 29

Oh! That's wonderfull. Little train in a big winter wonderland.
I wish I did have LGB trains too, although they are very expencive and I don't think they are sold in any store here in Sweden.
Besides, my mom would never allow me to take it outside anyways, "It's expencive and should be used indoors!" she would say.
Although I would realy like to have some of it myself, not so much, just a circle of track and a loco and some cars would be enough for me. (that's the good thing with MSTS, no limits of room space.)Hey that's a real nice engine, would be great to see it in MSTS. Have fun in the snow John! /Jonatan
