They are Balwin Transfer Units DT-6-6-20's(also known as RT-6-6-20). They were a 2000hp switcher with 2 606SC engines. 45 with the 606SC were built for the ATSF, Trona, MN&S, SSW, and DSA(SOO) between 1948 and 1950.Kevin Arceneaux It is time for Amtrak to become a fallen flag!
EJ&E was know as a DT-6-6-20. But it was the only one built with 2 608NA nonturbocharged diesels. To get the 2000 HP they used 8 instead of 6, as in the 606SC, cylinders. It was easy to tell it from the others, the carbody went to the end of the frames and it had multiple exhausts while the turbocharged units only had 1. The EJ&E puchased it in 1946 and then bought 26 of the 6065SC equiped engines. I do not have a scrapped date for these units. BTW, I do have a decent set of reference books and I am not afraid to use them. Kevin Arceneaux It is time for Amtrak to become a fallen flag!
