Hi everyone i'm back, i know i have been gone a few months but i have returned. the day after thanksgiving i spent 5 days in the hospital with Pancriatitus, and Diabetic Keytone Acidosus (DKA) and almost died. I have been diagnosed with Type 1 adult diabeties, which is something of a rare bird because only kids usually get it. Do any of you have it if ya do speak up i need to know what all i need to do to control it and how to get past the depression of knowing that i have it.

RE: Hi all I'm Back

Hi Joel,
Sorry to hear that. I'm a type II but it's still not any easier. My doctor sent me to diabeties school. If you haven't gone yet I highly advise it. They give you a lot of good information on how to control and deal with it. As for the depression, that depends on you. As far as I am concerned, it is just a fact of life I have to deal with so I told myself to get over it and get on with the rest of my life.
I'm glad you pulled through and are back in the forum.
Larry

RE: Hi all I'm Back

Hi Joel,Back in October my 10 year old Daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabeties. She was really sick with DKA we spent a week in the hospitial. The hospitial where we were at had a great program for diabetics. The first thing we were taught was how to count Carbohydrates. The biggest worry is she needs to know the signs of when she is "feeling Low" and how to check and treat herself for low blood sugar. We went through a crash coarse at the hospitial. Please!! check with your doctor He or She may be able to point you in the right direction.
And you need to find a Registered Dietitian(RD)to help you with meal planning. You can contact the American Diabetes Association at 800 DIABETES(342-2383).I understand what you are going through this is a big change in your life and I hope this helps.David
