I heard GE bought out EMD's loco division, or was it the other way around? it was a while ago i heard this and i forgot about it until today. Is this true? – image 1

I hope not in either case. It's good to see two competitors such as GE and EMD surviving and aiming to outdevelop each other with newer technology. The end result is we get the chance later on to model their newer products when they are produced.

BNSF is getting GE's now, and UP still taking SD70M's, and with 50 for NS, I doubt and haven't heard that one bought the other.

Supposedly, GM was trying to sell off their EMD wing of the company, and at one time Alstom/Bombardier was considering putting in a bid, but I haven't heard anything about it lately. GE definitely has not bought EMD, as this would be a major coup and would have been BIG news, and nobody's heard about it, so.....Chris Denbow - Baltimore, Md.

If I remember right, GM sold the division which EMD is a part of, but retained EMD itself. Run back through the Altamont Press Railroad News archives. I think it was recent enough that it'll still be listed.

Definitely not true. I work for one of 'em and here are some neat links to check for news. http://www.ge.com/transportation and http://www.gmemd.com/en/home/index also www.aar.org has lots of general RR related news and stuff. The G.E. site is super slow today. Both GM and GE sites have lots of pictures of their products.
