RE: a question for Nels...

If you are asking how does he afford to pay it...Nels relies on memebers to cough up the $30 a year, as well as the advertisers on the home page. Even though this is a free site, people often don't think about the fact that it cost money to keep it running. When you consider all that you get for the $30, I really don't understand why more people don't cough it up and help support this great site.ChrisWin a free add-on, enter the photo contest at my website, and submit your best photo. RE: a question for Nels...

I probally should have added that while not everyone is able to support the cause, those that can should step up. I forget that there are kids here, ranging in age from 10-whatever age your not a kid anymore, and there are also those of older age who can't afford it.A more simple way of saying it would be...Those that can afford it, should in order to keep this site up and running.Hope that clears things up!Chris Win a free add-on, enter the photo contest at my website, and submit your best photo. RE: a question for Nels...

Speak for youself Shep!
My wife says that I am now entering my 2nd childhood!Just an observation about the "youngsters" (some of whom talk like they are in their 30s )who can not or whose family can not afford or obtain the $30 for membership... That's OK as that is why Nels has the 2 tiered access.... HOWEVER, if you aren't paying then you really have no right to complain about slow access/downloads... When its free you keep your lip zipped and be gratefull... A lot of pay sites don't allow any free access whatsoever! Or make 3 bytes available at Oh dark thirty ( think UK train-sim )
Now I'm not talking to the guys in the previous posts at all but a few spoiled children whose names I don't need to mention! They know who they are!
If you really want the stuff then sneak a little less beer or chase one less girl for the 16-18 year olds... LOL!Old Codger Out!Chuck Schneider

I'm 16 also and have the money but I'm in the process of building a new system and it costs alot. I also don't have a credit card yet so I can't pay anyway. I really appreciate that the Library is free and I appreciate the work that Nels is putting into it. Once my new rig is up and running and I have cable internet, I'm sure I'll find a way to support the library and it's great content. *~þHÃt*Rat~**~classic american playa~*

Don, Maybe in your neck of the woods there are no jobs, but in Atlanta, there are alot of Fast-food and retail sales jobs to be filled. Not something we "older" folks want to do, but those energetic "young" folks can certainly fill these jobs. That way I won't have to wait so long to get my Senior Citizen Special.
But seriously folks. Send whatever you can to assist Nels with this great site. $30 or $3, every little bit helps.A question for Nels – image 15

A question for Nels – image 16

I really didn't want to chime in, but hey... I am... and this is not just about NELS site, it's about anything having to do with MSTS and needing to pay for it.1) Why are the teenagers so whiney? If there is something *I* can't afford, like a new Lamborgini, I don't take every opportunity to whine about it. I realize I can't and afford it and that's that.2) A number of us DO support NELS by paying money. What we do by paying money is to help keep this site free for the rest of you who "can't or won't" pay. Note: We don't complain that you NON-Supporters are getting a free ride... Claiming to be a "POOR" teenager is understandable... you might only get money from an allowance since you don't have a job or you might rely entirely on the generosity of your parents. Hopefully, you do have parents that gave you both the Train Simulator and the Computer to run it on so they might listen to your pleading to support a cause you believe is worthwhile... How many of you have even asked? I'm curious. Look at it this way, for the price of just "1" new bargain PC Game for your system or console, you could be supporting NELS for an entire year to make sure you continue to get more and more of the "free" stuff the Trainsim developers are making and sharing. If NELS has to start shelling out *his* own cash to keep this site running, I'm sure he'll realize it will need to be shut down. However, if people continue to support it, it stays online and might even have the ability to make some improvents I can't even imagine right now.

i think i missed it...was that me u were referring to?? the only reason i have spent any amount of time lately on this is my g/f is outta town...w/ her family...but seriously...the school i wanna get into is highly competitive...actually all 3 colleges that are lookin @ me are hard to get into (Baylor, University of Dallas, and the USAF Academy)....sorry but getting a job to support my MSTS habit would really be impossible..considering i play football, and am workin to get into a good school..unless MSTS provides scholarships Kyle Penn

That would be great, wouldn't it? Getting an MSTS scholarship? I applaud you on concentrating on getting into a good school...there's plenty of time later on to play. I also applaud your interest in a service academy, but the Air Force?? Why would you want to wear a uniform that looks way too much like a Greyhound Bus driver's? How about the Navy? Join the Air Force and see Omaha, Nebraska... join the Navy and see the world!I can see the flames a-startin' already...MCUSN, Ret.

You are obviously a young kid with no knowledge of things Military if you are gleefully(and rather stupidly IMHO) looking to lock a$$h0les with a Master Chief Petty Officer (retired or not).... Think Sergeant Major with Teeth! and a 3 digit IQ! When I became a Chief Petty Officer myself they told me that it was our (the Chief's) Navy and we were issued officers as a handicap so that we didn't make running it look too easy! I loved it... The interesting thing is that they teach the midshipman at Annapolis (AKA Canoe U. or the Trade School) Later of course I crossed over to the dark side and Got a Warrant and later a commission! LOL! But the happiest days of my military life were as a Submarine Service Chief Petty Officer!
Anyone in the air-farce/air-scouts that tells you he is in a military organization is just kidding... Hell they can't fly a combat mission from a base that doesn't have a functional bowling alley and golf course! My middle brother was a staff Sgt. EOD(UXB to you Brits) in SE Asia and he used to tell me all about the Colonels they had that were too young to shave! LOL!
I also have it on good authority that They also have more Colonels than Enlisted Airmen!

As for your ignorance of Naval rank/ratings, I'll ignore it. I served on 2 tin cans and 3 cruisers, 24 years total. I spent a lot of time in the Nowhere Ocean, and still prefer it to Omaha, Tucson, Albuquerque, and all the other wonderful places they have Air Farce bases. But, seems your mind is made up to be a wing wiper, so have at it. At least your sort of in the military.MC

Kyle,All kidding aside, I genuinely applaud your consideration of a service academy. You can get a top-notch education in a high-tech field, have the opportunity to work with some truly professional people, and do some travelling as well. And, when you get out, you are ahead of many others in the job market - military academy grads usually pull down more money than their "other college-educated" compadres. And, on top of all that, you are serving your country. Way to go.Best of luck,

RE: a question for Nels...

I gotta wonder about people who would prefer 6 months inside a nuclear moby dick or sitting in the middle of a thousand square miles of blank ocean to Albuquerque . I like Albquerque, own a beautiful house there and plan on retiring there all because I got stationed there when I was in the USAF. USAF people may spend days at a time silo sitting but they don't LIKE it (they use it to get masters degrees). Don't whine just because the other services (coasties excepted) just ain't smart enough to get congress to cough up the bucks to make being in places like Minot ND, or Thule, Greenland (yes, I spent a year there) livable.I'm not gonna say anything about Omaha NE, home of the UP railroad, spent three days at awful Offuit, two days too many.
