I know of at least three ways to disconnect from the file library, log out, shut down your browser(power failures count), or go to another site. It would seem two of the three was would tie up the library sessions for a period of time until the auto-disconnect took place.Question: Am I correct in the two "bad" disconnects? And how long before the library sessions are freed?Happy Holidays EveryoneBill

Not much is really "tied up" by leaving a session idle. There's probably one database record that holds your session id and maybe a login cookie, and the last time the system heard from you. Those usually get purged after some timeout period. But that's all there is... just some bits on a disk. Unless this forum software is pretty unusual, you aren't preventing anybody else from getting in, if that's what you're worried about.

RE: File Library Logout

If you mean the file download library here, I think (stress "I think") that unless you hit the logout button, you will remain logged in until you time out, tying up a login node and preventing someone else from accessing the library. Again, I don't know this 100%, maybe someone else can clear this up?Dave

RE: File Library Logout

When logged into the file library your session is automatically logged out after 30 minutes of inactivity. Each time you load a new web page the timer gets reset. Downloading a file does not keep the timer reset, however there is no time limit and not timeouts on downloads; once a download is started you have as much time as you need to complete it.

RE: File Library Logout

What is important in these statements is that once you start your last download, go ahead and log out. Your download will complete itself, and you won't be logged in for 30 more minutes until you time out. This makes room for more of us to log-in. I'll admit that I did not know this for a few months in the early days of the board. Hopefully everyone will start doing this. Thanks, Kyle H
