Hey everybody!I was thinking that it would be a good idea to email this post to new members. You know how you get an email giving you a temporary password and all the information like your user name. Why not include the post above in the message, although I would recommend shortening it. Some may "tune out" and just forget about reading all the stuff above, and scroll down to find their password...Just a thought...This is kwk100 and I'm 10-10 on the side.KWK100's GE Locomotive Rebuilding Updates (Dec. 03/2002):GE 44 Tonner V2.00 nearing completion, working on attaching all the parts and animation. RE: Basic Rules, Regulations... the Low Down

One suggestion I have is to create an "off topic" forum. There is one at projectai.com, it is largely unmoderated, and works great. People can post whatever kind of off topic stuff they come across. When in doubt if it fits in anywhere, it fits in the off topic forum.Dave

RE: Basic Rules, Regulations... the Low Down

No point in that line of thinking because it'll invite a mess like what's trying to be cleaned up now. People get to carrying on and then foul language enters the scene by kids or whomever and a parent finds out then all hecks to pay. Not trying to be critical of the point here but it's a bad idea, in all honest opinion, besides for off topic discussions theres allready an abundance of places to carry on pretty much however on wishes to do so. This place is for trains and railroad enthusiasts, come here for that, as for the nonsence, well the internet is a big enough place to accomodate that elsewhere. John;-)

RE: Basic Rules, Regulations... the Low Down

Yes, it is moderated for language, abusive posts etc....but not for content. Maybe I should have been more clear on that. It should work here, as it works perfectly well at projectai.com (I think I've seen one thread removed). Although to be perfectly honest, the forums at projectai tend to be a much more civilized place. I've only ever seen one flame war erupt.CheersDave

Actually there are plenty of other sites that support unmoderated chat - forums....
Since a significant number of the people who visit this site do not pay dues, IMHO we should not ask Nels to take the resources provided by those of us who do pay and use them on "unmoderated chats-Posts" since I'm guessing here that this "resource" will be used by an Disproportionately high percentage of those among us who don't provide fiscal support for whatever the reason...
Bandwidth is limited enough as is! Why waste it?
If you have to have an unmoderated chat - forum, use someone else's bandwidth....FWIW, Just my Opinion!Chuck Schneider

Well said chuck!, especially the point on the bandwidth. And Nels is to be commended for providing what he does to us and especially for what he is in essence giving away to allow one to freely come and go for enjoyment of a hobby as this has become. The forums are fine as they are if the rules are obeyed as presented and without any undue burden on bandwidth allocation. Best of holidays to all! John

RE: Basic Rules, Regulations... the Low Down

Well, I have to totally agree with that (had a look at the first 15 or so lines then just worked out the rest from there) but, I have noticed that the loco design forum is becoming more and more a forum for anything Australian to be posted in there. I had a look at all the pages of messages (it said I had lots of un-read messages) and well, maybe, just maybe we might need an Australian forum. I know that one person cannot do much, but hey, anything is worth a try, is it not?

Put a on your dial.
