Hey all, I'm trying to make my experience with operating the trains of MSTS more realistic and I was wondering if there was anywhere on the net or bookwise or whatever where I could go to learn how to more realistically operate trains. The tutorials and the info provided with the game really only cover the most basic train handling techniques, and I am interested in going slightly more advanced than that. If anyone could help that'd be great. Thanks.
Bruce,I think that you must be a little more specific in explaining what you want to do. What do you mean by "going slightly more advanced"? There are a number of current members who are active diesel locomotive engineers and even a few who have operated steam locomotives and I believe these Gentlemen will gladly answer your questions! I believe the basic operating information is sufficient in getting you started to realizing enjoyment. I'll look forward to your questions and observations and will attempt to help you as much as I can. Regards,
A suggestion would be (since I have operated diesel locomotives) is to go to the BNSF web site and download their instruction manuals.

A fellow named Al Krug is a real-life engineer for the BNSF in Montana. He has a very nice web site which has a lot of information on operating locomotives. Look for the section 'Photo essays'. The essay in October describes a long road trip operating a steam locomotive. http://www.vcn.com/~alkrug/home.html Dan
You might try the people playing Yard Duty. We are a community of users who know alot about switching and sorting cars, etc... You can post a message in the Yard Duty forum and someone will help. (I assume you mean operating a railroad, and not just one engine. For operating one engine stick with MSTS)
If you have steam questions I'm you're man. Not just my hobby but also my job. I'm not one of the uber-posters, but most everybody around here knows me, and I check the forums at least once a day so I'm always reachable. Blake Harris Engineer/fireman, Jefferson and Cypress Bayou Railroad
