Every year at my house, my Dad's old Lionel stuff goes up under our tree. "Santa" has been bringing my brother and I Lionel stuff for the past 6 years since I was 11. Still need a new engine. Dad has an old MILW GP, and one of the semi-scale 4-6-4's. At my granddad's, we set up his old American Flyer S scale, and then of course my HO is up all year round.

RE: Trains under your tree?

There are 3 choices for me, the christmas train one, Ho Union Pacific f7, or my lionel's but they are under construction on my layout. But its not Christmas without a train under the tree.

RE: Trains under your tree?

well letsee...dunno if you can count lego trains as "nice", but they take the place of Lionel..for a while...Anyways, i usually get my Lego train and my Rokenbok set out. (If you havent heard of Rokenbok before then i suggest you click here: http://www.rokenbok.com/whatis/index_01.html ) it works very nicely with my Lego Train, ive made a few cars to carry balls around and even a flat car to carry extra beams. I used to run a shortened version of Amtrak's Twilight Shoreliner under the tree (Atlas AEM7, Walthers Amfleets and a Walthers Viewliner), but after selling off all of my Amtrak NEC stuff this past summer, I'm now running a CSX intermodal powered by 2 Athearn CW44-9's with a Walthers spine car (5-unit set) and Walthers Gunderson stacks (5-unit set). RE: Trains under your tree?

Well, I'm a big boy and I still like trains under my Christmas tree. I have a Big 4x8.5 floor layout starting with Railking Premier SD70Mac in BNSF paint scheme pulling 9 cars, An old American Flyer 4-4-2 Steam pulling 4 cars on the inside of the O scale layout. Then on the next level up, I have the HO scale Santa Fe F-7 (red warbonnet) pulling 3 cars, and on the next level up (Top level) is my N scale Amtrak Gensis P-42 pulling 3 Amfleet in a oval track. I have my 3.5' Christmas tree in the middle of my n scale layout. I have one train running along the wall from one end to another end where it extends 20 feet in a dogbone shape. I have Railking SP GS4 Daylight pulling 5 Passenger cars on that one. Altogether, I have 5 trains running at one time. One more note, I do have all snow sceneries, buildings, streetlights, people, autos, trucks, and more for each proper scale and level.
I wish I can provide pics but, the file is too big. I will work on to reduce the size for upload.

RE: Trains under your tree?

bnsf1959 that sounds like an awsome layout. We just have two O-scale loops with a cross over. My prized engine is a Lionel Collectors club edition 2-8-4 maybe a Hudson i dunno. I usually have it pull 4 black railking passenger cars. Then i have an O-scale CPRail set that i plan to take out this year. csx_dudeRiverline for ever!

Looks like you've got a baloon track going there. Doesn't that crash your system, and cause all the Christmas tree lights to go out?
PopP.S. Nice layout.

LMAO! That's a good one!
That top layout for the SP GS4 is actually a Dogbone layout that extends 20 feet. I have the same type of loop at the other end, too.Ken

The M.T.H. version of the Daylight is actually rather squished... I have the K-Line version which seems to be more to its scale size... if I had a digital camera I would show a picture of it...P.S. What's the source of power for that layout?------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Trains under your tree? – image 25John Ekhoff

RE: Trains under your tree?

P.S. What's the source of power for that layout? I'm using the Remote control and infared sensor that is connected to the track for the top layout. The MTH Premier SD70mac(BNSF) is using the Command Control 20 from MRC. I'm using the O scale Tech 2 AC power for American Flyer. And last but not least, I'm using MRC dualpack to run both of my HO and N scale trains.
The Power for the lights (on top layout) is coming from the acessory side of Command control 20. I do have one more thing that you can't see in the photo is I have a working infared sensor crossbucks that activates when the train approach the crossing(at the far left of the photo). I use the Christmas light, streetlights, and buildings for lighting. I can run two trains with Command Control 20 but, it's not really compatiable with MTH and Protosound systems. Ken

The MTH Premier
>SD70mac(BNSF) is using the Command Control 20 from MRC. I want to clear up my mistake here, I'm using the DualPower 027 with wired remote control to run my MTH BNSF SD70mac instead of Command Control 20. I have the powerpacks' name covered up and I got it mixed up with my other N scale powerpack in the other room.

RE: Trains under your tree?

Here is my MTH GS4 on top and my N scale Con-Cor GS4, I just got it this past summer. Transcon is right about it being squish type. I prefer the scale version but, I couldn't resist buying the whole set verses the scale engine for the same price. It has Protosound 2.0. It came with 3 cars and I bought 3 more cars. The engine can only pull 8 cars max according to the instruction. I hope you'll like it.

Here's the K-Line GS-4 I have.. I got the pic from the K-Line website. It's got Lionel Railsounds and Lionel TMCC CompatibilityTrains under your tree? – image 29K-Line considers it semi-scale however, even though it appears to be "scale" to O... My dad is planning to buy a 8 car SP madison passenger car set to accompany it... Also I think that the pic of K-Line's prototype two years back because the orange color on mine is a little darker. Unfortunately its gotten a little hiccup... for some reason its computer system in the tender might be shorted out... my dad and I are going to sooner or later take it to Collectible Toys & Trains in Dallas (probably the largest O-scale retailer in the country, and also 'K-Line SuperStore #1) to see if they can fix it as I've heard they have a good shop there. And its where we bought the engine originally.------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Trains under your tree? – image 30John Ekhoff

Unfortunately no train around the tree this Christmas, I'm going up to see the rest of the family up in Idaho... But here's what have been run under the tree...- O-Scale M.T.H. Railking Texas & Pacific 4-8-2 Steam Passenger Set (Engine has Protosound 1)- O-Scale K-Line SF 'Silver Chief': Two SF Alcos (A-A) with five passenger cars...If we would have had a tree, we would have K-Line's Golden State Passenger Set going around the tree. (Consists of 11 cars, and a stray Southern Pacific diner car) It would've been pulled by Lionel's new Southern Pacific RS-11 in the "Black Widow" scheme... It's a shame it won't happen this year... P.S. If you're looking for a set to start a tradition, then buy one of M.T.H.'s RailKing Ready-to-Run sets... the engines include Protosound 2 and the sets come with remote controllers... Plus, for further expansion, Protosound 2.0 also has a DCC feature, specifically designed for M.T.H.'s new DCS system that came out last year...

RE: Trains under your tree?

We used to have Lionels running all over the living room and dining room at Christmas. We're talking a full route with sidings, yards, etc (Mother was never real happy about all that).Unfortunatley a house fire destroyed all the Lionel. A shame too because most of it was the old 1940s stuff that was worth a fortune.Paul
