Its sorta like yard duty, but has the 3d-ness of MSTS. It would be over the internet. One or two people (dunno how many there usually are) would be dispatchers, and a few of us would drive the trains. We would be able to communicate like in AA, through the microphones and speakers in our computers. premium add-ons
That's a pretty good idea actually. One possibility would have the 3dness of Lionel Train town's trains. While not totally prototypical, they do have a good bit of 3d feel to them while not taking up the db space you have on MSTS. here's my addition or revision to this if you want.Possibly set the code up such that as with Yard Duty, you recieve a mail giving the specs of your trains. HOWEVER, these specs are recieved not in sequence like a mail, but rather over a period on a server. Basically it'd be like the RTS games or 1st person shooter servers. Log on and play, servers might keep a log of what trains go where, and players could "operate" trains over set sections. I'm just tossing out ideas here, stop me if you like any of them. One possibility would be to have server moderators acting as dispatchers, or even CODE dispatchers to respond to certain key words. (that would allow singleplay) Include perhaps a random train generator that would allow a person to do switching in a yard, without having to be connected to the net.
Yea, this is a nice dream. I made Yard Duty, basically to show what could and should be done with one of the 3D sims. Hopefully someone will pick up on some of the ideas in Yard Duty and incorporate them into MSTS or Trainz. However, I somehow think the 2D, time-accelerated approach of Yard Duty will ultimately prove to be a more entertaining approach to a multi player freight delivery simulation.Jim
One thing I considered, was a game similar to something that came out a few years ago. 2d perspective, that threw several tasks at you, and left you to solve them in a certain time. Basically, you took a locomotive and train, and had to do switching using a limited ammount of track, and a limited time to do it in. Throw in through freights and track problems, and it could be pretty fun.
