One of my fellow UP employees in IL that I know e-mailed me last night and said that two of the new SD-70M's with the new cab was seen in Bensenville YD (CP). They were supposed to go down the IHB and on to Proviso YD. Fact or Fiction, I dont know. But some were seen up in Canada waiting to head to the US. So i'm just giving you peoples heads up. And kudos to whomever did the UP repaints of the SD40-2's they are done with precision, and they look almost like the real thing. I'll probably be playing MSTS today as there will only be 10 trains in the next 24 hours, so i'll be downloading a plenty today. So if you're in IL watch out and let us know something. I'd assume they're in the 4800 series.

If you're gonna do it, do it with precision.

If thats true, I hope they send them south. If they do, it will prolly be on a Z train coming out of Yard Center, IL. Be sure and call me if one hits the yard in the Bluff also. See ya trackside.

Hmm, I'd like to see this new cab design. NS is supposed to be getting with the new design.

Well if you're familiar with your locos, from what I have heard, it looks like the cab of UP's SD-90MAC-II's (8522-8561), and it has the angled windows that are EMD standard. But then I hear that they just have two front windshields and no "tear drop" on the ends. Only time will tell.

Well they will be in the lower 4800 series if im not mistaken. Also another rumor floating around is that, some of UP's 3900 series SD40-2's were renumbered into the lower 3100 series. Possibly for another batch of lower 3900 series SD-70M's. Anyone else heard this.

RE: UP SD-70M's With New Cabs Seen In IL.

The 24 ex-SP SD70M's are numbered in the 3900 series and have been for awhile. Currently the UP SD70M's are numbered from 4000 to something over 5000. The newest ones I have seen are numbered around 5030 and they look no different from the other late model SD70M's. If there are some with a new cab design then they just haven't made it to the service unit I work as I haven't seen them.PatchCrew

Well yeah the ex SP SD-70M's are in the 3974-3999 number slots. They would be below that. But this is just a rumor though.

NS getting with a new cab design???? Only if they find a way to stick in standard control stands instead of the dashboard design and replace the toilet with a roll of plastic bags.... Mr. F

Nice, but will they have dashboard-style controls or will they custom-order them with standard control stands like they did with the early Dash 9s?Mr. F

RE: UP SD-70M's With New Cabs Seen In IL.

All will have desktop controls, but whether digital or analog dials is up to the railroad. Only the NS, CN, and BC Rail has C44-9W's with the control stand.
