Just wanted to throw this out to anybody that is deciding to buy a new computer anytime to make sure it IS NOT a demo model...what I mean is, if the computer you want isn't on the shelf.. don't get it, go somewhere else, or wait until they have it back in stock. If you REALLY want it, then expect this...(maybe) A couple of my friends had this happen to them a while ago and had to go through the heartache of uninstalling everything due to a hidden virus on the computer, how it happened, I don't know, but they both got it from the same Best Buy store. Also, check the Games folder to make sure Train Simulator or any other games you plan on installing isn't ALREADY installed on the computer!!... on his was installed on there, along with C&C: Renegade, C&C: Red Alert 2, Half-Life, Medal of Honor: AA...etc..Just something to look out for Hehe"Best Machines to get, Latest Emachines running Windows XP Home/Pro, Steel Case. If your friends did not pay for a repaired or returned machine but in fact payed for a new machine (not reconditioned to like new) then they should run not walk back to Best Buy and demand a return... This sloppy and who knows what other "shortcuts" were taken.... Also the local Best Buy Manager might want to have a heart to heart discussion with his "return" department for the good of other future purchasers.....Chuck Schneider Chief Cook and Bottle Washer North American Locomotive Works

THERE is where they made their mistake: patronizing Best Buy.Best Buy will rip off their customers quicker than spit. They will do whatever they can to screw a customer.About four years ago, my sister (a blonde, of course, so she had NO idea what they were pulling....) went to Best Buy to pick up a Compaq computer system. She got the computer and monitor and printer. And we all know how one must buy the printer cable extra, right?Best Buy said that she had to buy this one specific printer cable that cost $40.00 FROM THEM or else they would NOT honor the warranty on the printer or computer if anything went wrong! Uh, FORTY dollars for a printer cable? The very same exact cable (brand, model number, etc.) was a whole $6.95 up the road at Fry's Electronics. Thirty-three dollars cheaper, but Best Buy said you HAD to buy it at their store or no warranty.I told my sister how she got ripped off -- as well as showing her the package and receipt for MY same exact printer cable from Fry's!! Trouble is, Best Buy charges outrageous fees to return stuff, but she was irate enough that she wanted to return the whole systemt o them and have them insert it where sun never shines...but she'd have been out a heck of a lot more than the $33.00 difference on the printer cable.
I would trust Best Buy before ever trusting Fry's Electronics. Best Buy may have an in-store warranty policy that needs the $40 cable. While one could argue a price gouge, try checking on the horror stories from folks who bought (anything) at Fry's. You may find that they have close to a 30% return rate - mostly due to repackaged (known) defective goods or worse: manufacturer dumps. Their cables are especially suspect, having second-rate QA using second-rate materials.I still shop both stores, but "Buyer Beware" seems appropriate.Cheers! I'd like to see this snot-nosed sales kid (who was probably selling shoes last month) try to tell me I HAD to buy a $40 printer cable. I would then explain to him that I administer the computers for every police dept in our county and that I'd have our Special Investigations Unit down to pay them a visit the next day.
