Jul-30-01, 03:39 PM (EST) "MSTS BUDDY" It is worth noting again that the MSTS BUDDY programme is shareware (crippleware) and as good as it is the other price you seem to pay is being bombarded with advertising from the MSN Communities site. The advertising isn't confined to MSTS or railway stuff... today it's movie reviews and music.I'm starting to get totally sick of it and there seems to be no way of getting out of the loop.As it happens I haven't taken the option to buy the programme as it doen't seem to fill any particular need I have that the Activity Editor doesn't provide - but that hasn't stopped the ads from coming, and coming, and coming.Mike Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-30-01, 06:19 PM (EST) 2. "RE: MSTS BUDDY" I have not seen any ads in mine and it is not crippleware. You get to use it for 15 or 20 days I think and then you pay or not.bob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sorry, but it is crippleware. I just installed the version 1.03 version. It has a trial period limitation of 14 days or 50 program starts, plus the registration form clearly states that the features are limited in the evaluation copy, you have to register the full version to unlock all features. This is the classic definition of crippleware.I wouldn't mind the 14 day trial period, or the limit of 50 program usages before registering, but the combination of both of the above and limited functionality as well seems excessive. I uninstalled the product and will wait for a much later version after the product has matured and the obvious flaws have been worked out. (Yes I did recieve some program errors such as 'subscript out of range', the consist checker reported that one of the games default engines was not present and then after canceling and restarting it then appeared and the graphic preview doesn't seem to work.) Don't log on to Train-Sim.com

Remember too, that sites such as Nel's Train-Sim.com and Flight-Sim.com are not the old home BBS's of old. It takes resources such as servers, net time and access, lots of hardware, and his time to run for the convenience of folks who want to be here, and ingrates like yourself. So to amortize the cost a bit, you get a little banner ad at the top. But again, if it's too tough to ignore....don't come here. Pretty simple stuff really. Nice knowing you.

Jul-31-01, 03:15 AM (EST) 4. "RE: MSTS BUDDY" I think some of you are missing the point - maybe worth your while to re-read my first letter. The unsolicited ads I am getting are from MSN Communities - not this great site.I understand the necessity of ads they are part of my site too - but I don't like the advertising that accompanies the procedure of joining MSN Communities. The procedure that I had to go through to get MSTS Buddy. And BTW I'm not being critical of MSTS Buddy. OK?My version, V.1, only had limited functionality. Maybe the later versions give you more options..Mike Hill

Jul-31-01, 10:02 AM (EST) 7. "RE: MSTS BUDDY" Mike, he is adding functionality as he designs it. So there are new versions coming out frequently with new functions. You have the very first one so you would be missing a lot of things.Try a new one.bob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
