RE: Leased Amtrak F-40's thread

Coaster, the North San Diego County commuter operation from Oceanside to SD, had the 369 and 372 for the longest while. They did have a pair of brand-new F59PHI's delivered last year, and the 372 stayed on at Coaster. It was there about three months ago, but this past weekend, I did NOT see it at the yard north of Oceanside, unless it happened to be the unit used for Saturday service....but there weren't any of the Coaster F40PH-2M's in the yard either, only the pair of F59PHI's.

Alaska RR has two leased from Amtrak for HEP (Head-End Power). Meaning that they're not on the front of the train, instead they are used for powering the passengers' climate control system and other things.------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Leased Amtrak F-40's thread – image 16John Ekhoff

RE: Leased Amtrak F-40's thread

In late June I caught saw an F40 pushing a Shoreline East commuter train towards New London, Connecticut. I was on an Acela Express going the other way, so I did not get a very good look at it. I do not know if they still have that F40 or if they had more F40s than just the one I saw.
