I heard that MSTS was designed by satelitte mapping? How could they do that or isn't this true? (Talking about route design)Also I think the TRAINS Magazine had a contest where whoever found the BNSF Dash 9 with MS Train Sim on the side of the nose won money. Does the magazine or MS have to pay big money to BNSF for that kind of thing to be done?Adam-------------------------------Operation Lifesaver Organization -- http://www.oli.org/ Striving to save lives at railroad crossings Have a safe and Happy Halloween
Yup. It's VERY true. It's called D.E.M. (Digital Elevation Modelling)...You take a map (hopefully a contour map); and you feed it into the Route Geometry Extractor..You now have useable 3D terrain, after you do a few things (Dunno how to use the RGE myself) How do you think all dem routes got dun so fast? It's all about the DEMS! Hmm..No idea..Probably some sort of agreement going on; BNSF gets to promote their product (notice how they're the only default American freight RR in MSTS? Why didnt they do CSX or NS? ), and Microsoft gets to rake in the money on the MSTS sales..Win-Win situation
