I still got time to change my graduation project idea. Do you think I could shadow train crews, making a total time of 120 hours in two and a half years or wouldn't that be possible?Adam-------------------------------Shadowing Train Crews? – image 2Operation Lifesaver Organization -- http://www.oli.org/

RE: Shadowing Train Crews?

ADAM,
VERY BAD IDEA!!!!!!!!!
The latest directive from the BLE (Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers) is a warning about possible Terrorist attacks on railroads, including passenger trains, bridges, and other areas of railroad property.
MY ADVICE is STAY AWAY and Forget about shadowing Train Crews.
You are looking for lots of TROUBLE!!
If you want to learn more about trains, buy train magazines and train videos for now. IT's MUCH SAFER!!
My 2 cents worth.Daniel

I have spoken to CSX crews before and they said sure about it. Although I did not call CSX myself I just asked crews so CSX might not let you or whatever railroad is around you.Shadowing Train Crews? – image 4The arrow and bars shall return!Firm beleaver in Ceo David Gunn (Amtrak)

I would try a shortline rather than a Class 1. They are alot more laid back than Class 1's and most will even let you enter their property if sign a release form.

There is NO ROCK-SOLID EVIDENCE pointing to the railroad industry as the next target of terrorism. Sure, they found material suggesting that it might be the case, but they can't be 100% positive. As for these directives, they're just security precautions that EVERYONE should be taking, or at least reviewing, in such times. At this point, it's a VERY BAD IDEA to walk outside your house. It's a VERY BAD IDEA to start your car. It's a VERY BAD IDEA to log onto the internet.
It's also a VERY BAD IDEA to get paranoid. When you've reached that point, it means the terrorists have won.America is at a state of high alert, and the best WE can do is go about our lives. Didn't you hear what Bush said, shortly after 9/11? "Get on the airlines! Take that business trip! Get about the business of America!"Shadowing Train Crews? – image 8

RE: Shadowing Train Crews?

I went to the train station to railfan last night, even though one train only beeped at me when I waved to them it was still fun and I saw no extra security there. Even though I don't care for model RR's that much, I'll stick with that. Thanks for the advice!Adam-------------------------------Shadowing Train Crews? – image 9Operation Lifesaver Organization -- http://www.oli.org/
