Jun-02-01, 10:20 PM (EST) "Video Cards?" I just got MTS. I have an older Gateway computer and tried to run the sim...it loaded, then wouldnt run. Tech support say's I should get a new video card. Okay, so, what is a fairly decent inexpensive video card for train simulator? Tech support recommended a GE force 64MB. I have a STB velocity 128. Is a GE Force 32 MB better than my STB? They're way cheaper than the 64, and I could be running through Marias Pass in just a few days. Any help on this would be a great help. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I don't know your price limit,but i got my 64MB hercules prophet MX for about $150 !It worth every penny!I have P3 500Mhz ,384MB ram (this helps a lot)with the vid card above.The graphics setting is about 95% ,1024*720*32,it is producing some decent fps.By the way there is a big difference between 800*600 and 1024*720.The guys at Microsoft built the whole panel visuals for 1024*720,anything less and the panel is somewhat blury, the numbers on the gauges are hard to read and looks handdrawn. Switch to higher resolution you will be amazed, crisp numbers ,all around crystal clarity!Ok,ok maybe not but worth trying. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-03-01, 00:40 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Video Cards?" Yes-Any GeForce 2 is better than your card. I had a VooDoo 3 16mg and when I went up to my GeForce 2MX 32mg I have now-it made a big difference. I upgraded to a p3-850 and am still using voodoo3-16meg
game runs just fine,however just lately I've noticed
some game lock-up with all settings maxed-out

I have had rolems similar to this on an older 8mb card, and the problem was fixed with a new driver. I picked one of these cards up cheap on eBay for a cheap project computer and no newer games run on it, the game launches then boots back to the desktop. I looked for drivers and couldn't find anything, but windows ME loaded some for this card automatically. If you use this card successfully with any games which require DirectX 5 or above please let me know what drivers your using,where they can be found, and game title. Another question while we're here, I was a 3dfx voodoo man until they went out of business and I had all that slow and unstable garbage with the voodoo4, which was actually a little slower than the three in spite of being AGP instead of PCI and being a more expensive card. I really have no sympathy for 3dfx, they had the formula and dropped the test tube, and got passed by. So my current card is a creative 3D Blaster Annihilator 2, which has the GEFORCE 2 GTS chip. Since I'm a brand new Nvidiot, could some nvidia hardware guru explain to me the difference between the GEFORCE 3 and the GEFORCE 2 ULTRA? I was looking on www.pricewatch.com , thinking about upgrading, and there's a few Ultra's in the same price range as the 3's, and a lot of apples vs. oranges comparisons make it hard to figure out which is more bang for your buck. Also, is there a NVIDIA model with 128 instead of 64mb ram, or did I hallucinate the reference I saw? And since I don't have a digital monitor, I really don't need the digital or TV out feature, if there's a difference there."Speed is life, more is better"

"RE: Video Cards?" i use a 8mb savage IX mv card that came with my laptop. works grreat with moderate settings in msts. for programs like half life and the need for speeds, and quake and all those, i can run them at 1024X768 with all graphics options maxed out and get 35+ fps, but it has some trubl with MSTS. why i dont know, maybe its the graphcis engine.
