Slightly off MSTS topic, but a major rail crash in Australia (South Australia) yesterday afternoon... A local commuter bus was stranded by traffic congestion over a fairly busy rail grade crossing, and was subsequently hit by the legendary passenger train "The Ghan". 4 dead and 13 seriously injured. Also reports a couple of weeks ago, that the West Coast Railway R class Hudson (see Joseph Spinella's TS model) was hit broadside by a truck at a level crossing in Victoria, killing 3 including the loco driver. Reports were that the loco was bounced completley off the tracks. Unfortunately much of the detail of this accident was overwhelmed by the extended details of the bombing in Bali, which happened on the same day.Last week, the new Alice Springs to Darwin rail line extension, which is not due to open 'till 2004, claimed its first victim, when a farmer was hit and killed by a ballast train at a grade crossing. Failed to apreciate that stop meant STOP.Has been a rough patch for rail in Australia lately...OZ

RE: Rail crash in Australia

Well we've had a lot of rail accidents here in the U.S. lately too, I think more than usual and there's probably more that we don't hear about, they just aren't bad enough for the media to get into.Adam-------------------------------Rail crash in Australia – image 2Operation Lifesaver Organization -- http://www.oli.org/

RE: Rail crash in Australia

Thanks for the update regarding the K. I will admit to having spent insufficient time on research due to work commitments, but the only newspaper reference I could find in Melbourne mentioned the WCR, but didnt mention the loco class _ just jumped to conclusion (these days about the only exercise I get )Was the story correct that the loco was pushed broadside off the tracks onto its side?? What is the damage??Cheers
