RE: Power Supply Problems? Please help!

At a 176watts and with all that stuff I'm surprised you haven't experienced more problems. I would seriously recommend at least 300 watt supply. When I was building my P4 system, I wanted to test the various components in anther case before taking apart my current system. Well try as I might, I couldn't get the system to fully recognize the processor correctly. The BIOS was reporting it as P4 1.8GHZ, it's really a 2.4. Try to make changes in the BIOS and the system usually locked up after two or three changes. The case had a 230watt supply. Out of frustration, I jury rigged up the board to my current system which has a 300 watt supply. System fires up and correctly recognized the processor as a 2.4 and was able to successfully program the BIOS for my needs. Even now I'm thinking about upgrading the supply to a 350 or 400 watt as I have several drives connected.
Something to consider.Matt

RE: Power Supply Problems? Please help!

You could get an Antec P4/Athlon Ready 350w supply at Best Buy for about $65... should fix all you power related problems....
Get you some breathing room while you decide what to do about a new system.
You are going to need at least that much when you build your new system... Especially if you are re-using the case of your existing system.Chuck Schneider

Thanks for the advice, as for reusing the case.. Screw it, It's HP junk, Im gonna get a new case, with a 400watt ps or higher, new mobo, new CPU, something 2.0Ghz or higher, and some ram, after that I can salvage the hd's and cd devices from the current one, then I should be good.. I knew buying a pre-built would be unwise, I'll never make that mistake again Power Supply Problems? Please help! – image 6
