Thought that I might share this with you....I'm standing up on the footbridge over the railway yard at Moss Vale, my brother has just come up to join me. We quickly start watching the RSA guys working on the track (I like to call them lemmings). A few minutes pass then a blast on the horn from a superfreighter quickly gets us turning around, my brother asks me what I think it is, and then I see the classic NR class loco headlight. I answer to him saying it is a NR, neither of us can see the train or the headlight at the moment, then roaring into view at a rather slow speed due to trackwork 3 NR's come off the bridge and start charging down towards Moss Vale station. The train gets nearer and the RSA guys clear the track, another blast on the horn as he nears Moss Vale station to warn the other set of workers futher down the line, and with this I get ready to watch him roar under the bridge. My brother decides to get "exhausted" (standing right above the locos and getting hit be the exhaust, it is a very nice way to get warm on a winters morning) my eyes are on the driver as he passes by, he happens to notch it up while going past us, and this is some sight! The second and third NR's roar past, then the almost endless wagons start coming, we happen to be standing above a rail joint, so as the wheels pass from one section of rail to the next we hear it in great detail. The train still keeps coming, then finally the end is in sight, the last wagon barrels past us, and the RSA guys return to working on the track, several minutes after stopping work for the superfreighter.........This is all true
