Since I'm no good with cab designing will someone try an attempt at making the windows up front alittle more clearer than what they are at the present. No matter what time of day it is the outside view pretty much looks the same. Also it's harder to see the signals until you're almost on them.Other than that it's an excellent cab.Just need it in NS black and a few other well known roads,(CSX,SF,CR,SCL).

RE: New SD40-2 Window

I have to agree with Claude.
I ran the new SD40-2 several times yesterday, and the sounds, control stand and its position are all excellant, but running this locomotive from the "in the cab view" is difficult as vision is limited to the front and mostly left side and no view to the right.
It would have helped if there were an outside cabview to see the signals and other objects to the right better.
It seems the in cab camera is positioned just a bit too far to the right creating a blind spot.
Just my two cents worth!Daniel

RE: New SD40-2 Window

You can also add a "headout" view in the ENG file. Here's the info that NoMoreTrains posted in a related topic:HeadOut ( 1.73 3.5 5.35 )Just open the ENG file in wordpad, search for CABVIEW and insert the above line after the CABVIEW line. Easy.Works great!

RE: New SD40-2 Window

Plus you can "hack" the CVF and add cab signals...
There are plenty of them out there in our packages and others too...
The seating postion looking across the hood, so I am told, is prototypical and the engineer/driver (for you lot from the continent) must turn slightly to his right to see straight down the track. Most engineers I have talked to in freight service prefer this to front facing desktops as they can easily look in both directions (front and back) and especially when switching.
BTW, this is one of the reasons our Sam Spade "stylizes" his cabs for a straight on view. Then simulator has no easy way of allowing you to turn your head or lean back like a real engineer can.Chuck Schneider

RE: New SD40-2 Window

The CVF file is located in the CABVIEW FOLDER of the SD402 FOLDER. For this locomotive, the filename is 'sd402.cvf'.Ray

Thanks.....maybe the medicine I'm on started hitting too hard!
It's right there where it's supposed to be.I just compared the position settings to those of another unit (a Penn central SD40) and reset them accordingly. Thanks again for the assist!!

RE: New SD40-2 Window

Is it possible to change the left view, just an empty chair, to forward right near the window to give a better view when going around a right hand curve? Sorta like leaning forward in the seat.Or would that screw up the #1 view?Just a thought. Beautiful engine.Bob
