Jul-27-01, 06:40 PM (EST) "Western Railroad History" There was a very interesting program on The History Channel at 10PM EDT last night on the history of railroads in the western US. Particular attention was paid to the Great Northern raoroad and their quest for a path across the Rockies. Marias Pass was found and is apparently the lowest point on the continental divide in the US. All in all a very interesting hour.

Jul-28-01, 09:18 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Western Railroad History" It was also interesting to know that brakemen, before the knuckle coupler, were rated for experience by the number of fingers they had lost. The more fingers missing the more experience. Couldn't have paid me enough to be a brakeman in the 1800's.

I missed this! Can you give me the title? Was it the "Real West" ("Coming of the Iron Horse") or was it "Modern Marvels" ("RR's that Tamed the West")?I am hoping that it was the former as that is going to be repeated on August 6th.Thanks,Quentin Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-29-01, 03:50 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Western Railroad History" I believe it was modern marvels. They did about 4 days last week on the old west. I'm sure it will be repeated.
