Pretty sweet, ain't it. I downloaded it earlier tonight and tested it out. Couldn't believe my eyes. The cabview ... WOW! ... and animated fans, and animated wipers, and new sounds (double WOW!), and ...And yes, I'm gonna try editing the cabview for all my favorite locos. Probably my favorite cabview yet. Never thought I'd say that about something from MS/KUJU!!!!I tell ya, MSTS 2 is soundin real nice now! I guess they have been listening.Ray

I dont know if this goes into good, but looks like MS(KUJU) did lots of downloading and learning from train-sim.com
Nice looking Locos, especialy the SD-40.
Bad:
Installed MSTS - took as twice as long as other simulators for only one route.
It asked me to reboot.
Takes 630MB for one route.
Have to install 1.0 to 1.1, and then 1.1 to 1.2 add-on seperately.
MSTS would ask me to send error report every time I run it - and it was simply cause because Nview was enabled.
No other game has done me this.
Edit: Hahahaha, now I read that SD-40s are TA's creation? No wonder they were good.

Looks like Microsoft/Kuju and Train Artisan hit a homerun with this one. I downloaded this earlier this evening. Love the new cabview and new horn. They even threw a couple new freight cars in the deal. The caboose that's included has a pretty sweet #5 view also.Jordan L.

WOW! I just downloaded the updates, too. I like everything in the SD40-2 like the sounds(when powering up or down), cabview, spinning fans. I liked the addtional cars especially the refeer cars with motor noise. This is fantastic! Thanks Microsoft!

I'll never grow, always want to have a kid inside me. I babysat my friends 4 month son and watched the Beauty and the Beast with them. My kids are 14 and 12, so I had a blast. I'm just a big kid and I like it that way.

It's been a while since I have used TS, other interests have taken up my time, but I have continued to lurk here, seeing what everyone has been doing. Seeing the shot of that cab had me downloading the update and I just spent an hour running the SD40-2s on MP and I was in awe. The locomotives are wonderful and the cab is the icing on the cake as they say. The new sounds are amazing, the turbocharger whine is there, the low bass sound of the engine,...running up through the notches is so nice. You guys have made my favorite engine complete, now all I need is a CR version Great job to all at TA, you can't do any better than working for the company that published the original game. I really hope that this working relationship will continue through to MSTS2 and beyond.Cliff

As matter of fact I hope Kuju stops making Locos and rolling stocks and let people like TA do it all.
Otherwise we will have to deal with low quality and wrong physics again.
I think Kuju just doing the base, and letting people like TA do locos and rolling stocks will be big key for success of MSTS2.

I wouldn't take anything away from Kuju's reputation as a first rate game producer, but their models of rolling stock is not not up to par with the rest of the TS package. Run TS and take the 3 SD40-2's with the mixed freight, then jump back through the consist past the new covered hoppers (nice ), to where they couple to the default hoppers. I can understand that the modelers at Kuju probably aren't train fans, so as long as a car has wheels, it really doesn't matter where they are placed under the body, or how large the wheels are, or how realistic the coupler size and mounting is. I think they should have had at least one railfan on staff who would pick up those errors immediately.To keep this on topic, I will use the rest of this post to compliment TA on the add on cars, the hopper is great and the mechanical reefer with the sound effects is impressive. I haven't taken the caboose out yet, but I hear it's first rate also. I don't know what TA's role might be in MSTS2, if any, but I would hope they would at least act as consultants to assure that the new models are accurate.Cliff

Cliff,Thanks for your fine comments. A lot of time was spent making sure these cars appeared realistic and transitioned between distance levels smoothly. Despite the detailed appearance the cars are surprisingly low-poly, the target poly count being set at 1000.Conn McCarthy

HiIt's a nice looking view but useless if you actually want to be able
to view oncoming Signals - the only ones that are visible are those
you can see while going around a left-hand curve. Not even a heads
out view to let us look for them by sticking our head out into the
breeze.Other than "minor" oversight, it's great, good sounds, rotating fans,

How come after installing, you have to resatrt the computer? You normally don't have to restart if you're just installing trains and activities. Maybe Kuju fixed the front coupler patch secretey(or maybe they fixed something else that modified train.exe)?-------------My favourite LUL train-------------

I believe Train Artisan played a role in the creation of this locomotive. Anyway, it sure is beautiful. I haven't downloaded the update yet. Does anyone know if the update fixes anything, or is it just providing us with more locos and rolling stock?Woodbrdge

Hmm...Tried out the bundled activity from Essex to Whitefish..Stalled at the hill just before the downgrade that leads to West Coram I had the three engines just starting to go downgrade, but the 50 cars at the other side were just too much (and keepin control of 50 cars goin downhill while trying to stay reasonably near the track speed...Hope there weren't any fragile items in those cars, what with all the braking and releasing i did...)Anyway, I plan on using this SD40-2 to replace the earlier SD40 sometime in the future

Dang! I gotta get my Dad to get me a new PC but he still don't believe about the problem we had with MSTS the first time that we need a new PC, GRRRR!
