On the Amtrak Train Loco that tilts into turns, does the train crew tilt with it?Also doesn't Amtrak have a train that goes 200 some MPH?How can some engineers bring a fast passenger train into a station and stop without hardly any brake squel?Lastly, like in the movies such as Atomic Train when applying the brakes does it take a few seconds for the wheels to actually start squeling?Adam-------------------------------New high speed, jet engine powered train locomotive – image 9Operation Lifesaver Organization -- http://www.oli.org/

>>On the Amtrak Train Loco that tilts into turns, does the train crew tilt with it?No, they're programmed with the track
>>Also doesn't Amtrak have a train that goes 200 some MPH?I guess the Acelea could reach that speed
>>How can some engineers bring a fast passenger train into a station and stop without hardly any brake squel?Skill, and the equipment is designed for that. For Example, theoratically, an FP59PH1 can stop from 70 MPH in 35 seconds. Because the FP59PH1 has blended brakes making the stoping power of 2.0 MPH per second from 70 MPH.(October Trains)Greg

The beams are for holding onto, that thing goes from 50kmp/h to 0 in about 5 seconds sometimes, so you obviously need something to grasp. I'm sorry that you find the T1 un-cozy, I quite like it *~þHÃt*Rat~**~classic american playa~*

You guys are funny! As for the T1, I know it inside and out (I'm supposed to ride it everyday - but I take the bus instead. ) They aren't bad trains though, just bad riders. TTC's previous cars had more seats and smaller doorways. Dumbass riders going 1 or two stops would get on and stand right in the doorway and yak-yak-yak, oblivious to other riders getting on or off. So Bombardier made them 'barn doors' (about 5' wide now?). Now the dumb riders treat it like their 'ballroom' space. Seats are smaller, and less of them, and is about as cozy as a cattle car in rush hour. But the ride is smooth, and braking (depending on driver?) is very smooth. And you guys know Montreal uses rubber tires on their subways as well, right? Talk about smooth - but very small cars! Now TTC low floor buses - that's my mode in 'The Big Smoke'.

RE: New high speed, jet engine powered train locomotive

BNSF, wrong railings. On the corners of the cars there's like bumpers that don't look anything like handrails. What are they?On passenger trains here in the U.S. usually between passenger cars I see a black, ridged insulator that looks like rubber. From the inside how can they make that look like a wall?
Off topic of this post but on flatcars when trailer truck trailers are carried sometimes they put a few of the trailers over two cars (over the coupler area). How can they do that and the car still be able to turn? Is there rotating jacks under the trailers or something?

RE: New high speed, jet engine powered train locomotive

I think you almost answered yourself ITLT before when you said 'bumpers'. If you are reffering to 'the wings' at the front/back exterior of the car, those are 'buffers'. More as a shock absorber/stabilizer for when trains take the almost L shape turns into Union Station. They were garrish things on the ol' Red Rockets (imported from Britain, and they do love their 'buffers' so.), and it's just something that 'stuck' through all designs of TTC cars now.
Hope that helps you out some? Dan - good guessing, I'm a 'northerner'. My backyard is the Davisville yards. Beltline Bridge vantage point is the best!
Actions really slow since Warden Yard came into play, but one can see neat maintenence trains, T1 tests, old rockets off to the scrap yard, garbage trains et al. But I do miss the night sorting and the ol' clang and hiss of the 'original rockets'. Now there's a challange for you BNSF, doing the Davisville Yards!
Is this 'modern day' TTC you planning to tackle, or earlier?
If I score a digital camera, I'm your man! They've changed so much at Davisville now. It used to have a CN rail delivery bringing in the rockets, and a wild service access line that would make Marias Pass gradients look like a matchbook cover.

If you go to Bombardier's website, its called JetTrain.
Its power cars look simalar to Acela Express ones without the pantographs.
Its currently being tested in Peublo,CO. It might run on the Northeast Corridor and planned high-speed coriddors in the Northeast,Midwest,Nothwest & Southwest parts of the U.S.A.(possibly the southeast)Mike

I got a question about the Acela Express. My Dad said since they're having so many problem with the Acela they were thinking about using a 1 car train on that line but he said he may have got his information messed up.How could they use 1 car for all of them many business people? Also has Amtrak tried buying more Acela Locos to see if the one they bought that had the problems was just at fault and not any others? Can a co. call their train whatever they want such as the Acela?Do train bridges have to have clearance for people? The reason I ask is I saw a picture of a train bridge that said before it on a sign DANGER, Close Clearance.NS southbound (above) goes "in the hole" as it meets a northbound (right), at Lynwood. The above text is a description of a photo I saw on a website of a NS Train and Conrail Train at a crossing. RE: New high speed, jet engine powered train locomotive

You are full of questions, aren't you ITLT? No prob's. And glad I helped on the 'buffer' dilema you had. As for bridges, I'm sure safety standards today insist on some type of 'clearance' should any worker/civilian be caught on a bridge span as a train approaches. However, many bridges were built so well looooooong ago that they're still in great shape today, but without the 'safety' features. I'm sure railroads argue that doing major 'safety' installs on these old beauty bridges/trestles may in fact comprimise or even jeopordise the structures integrity, thus evading extra work (and cost) on them.
As the saying goes, a 'Catch 22'. Also, I think the Acela's are facing the demise that CN Turbo's had faced. As any car fan will say, if you drive a Lambourgini at city speed limits all the time, the engine will louse up quickly. I think with the NEC and it's speed restrictions, the Acela's are in much the same fate? And of course with every accident, the speed limits are dropped slightly. I haven't been following Amtrack's news lately, and think Bombardier does a great job - maybe too good for Amtrack? As for names, yes....and no. Bombardier will have a list of names, Amtrak will say 'we want so many of your new design'. Bombardier may have said 'okay, we will deliver you sets of our Tabernac trains'. Amtrak may say 'Whoa, Tabernac? That may sound to french for our US customers, and give our service reps a million questions? Can you tone it down a bit please?' Bombardier goes down their list and may suggest 'Acela - It sounds slightly french, slightly spanish, and our market researchers say it's the most phonetically smoothest name that will instill comfert and confidence in customers US and abroad'. Amtrak mulls it over and says. '25 Ace-la's it is!' And your last question is easy. 'In the hole' simply means you were directed onto a passing track and told to stop possibly while a train with 'higher priority' passes you (either direction).Hope that can help you out some? Now you've got my brain ticking!
