Follow up on amtrak accident at union staton. I got some scuttlebut from one of the metra conductor hetold me the engineer told him that it was a faulty switch that caused the accident supposedly the switch was installed about a 100 years ago. it is my understanding that amtak is responsible for maintence of tracks by Union station
heh but hey a Switch installed yesterday can also fail "Even if it is Maintained"Researching the Northeast Corridor Philadelphia Subdivision, and trying to get info on Port Richmond Terminal (Reading Railroad) Bob Philadelphia, Pa
I agree Bob, for something like a broken rail or a switch machine to points link. Things like metel fatigue can't be planned for. But if it's something like a loose or missing bolt then there is nowhere to point the finger at but at sloppy maintenence.
Thanks for the information. I didn't really want to say anything before on the other post without getting the facts and more info's. I kinda thought it might be a faulty switches cuz it looked like part of the train was sitting on the switch that had gone bad or something like that from what I can see on TV.
