Jul-19-01, 11:37 PM (EST) "Seeking 3D Studio .max file for study. Help please!" Hi! I've got 3d Studio Max and have read the help files and docuements that came with MSTS. I still have almost no clue as to how to use 3D Studio Max 3 with MSTS.Could someone please post a sample 3D Studio Max file that has been used as a source for object creation and placement within the MSTS enviroment.I'm looking for something other than a simple cube with 3D Studio Max materials properly named and attached to the object. The final object should contain several 3D Studio objects such as a signal having a target, pole and base, or an diesel engine, or similar object. While detailed instruction on using 3D Studio Max is outside the bounds of this forum, a simple example other than what is mentioned within the documents supplied with MSTS WOULD BE MOST HELPFUL.After reading the docs several times, I'm still not sure what to do!Thank you in advance for your assistance. Jul-21-01, 04:33 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Seeking 3D Studio .max file for study. Help please!" Actually, about a month ago there were very few people who had figured out how to do anything. It's only been out in North America for about 6 weeks. My previous 3D experience was also with Bryce 4 and this is a tough learning curve for me too. I've seen a surprising amount of imformation being shared here. Writing tutorials for complex programs is not easy, but at his rate I expect to see plenty of information in the next few months.

Jul-21-01, 04:09 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Seeking 3D Studio .max file for study. Help please!" There are several sample files in the \SAMPLES directory of MSTS, including a simple hut, a Dash-9 locomotive, and others. The Locomotive Design area of this forum contains quite a bit more technical information, but most of us are still on a learning curve.

Having a couple of THOSE files would answer some of the questions I have using Max.Thanks for the suggestion anyways. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>BIG! jump! The .3ds files found in the sample folder can be placed in TS if you want. The problem is that the 3ds files are the RESULT of creating objects and shapes, textures and such WITHIN 3D Studio Max and EXPORTING them out of 3D Studio Max. While the 3ds files can be imported back in to 3D Studio Max, you loose all the information that ORIGINALLY created the .max file. It is somewhat akin to modelers zipping up .s and .sd files for inclusion into TS. They also can't be read by any file reader that I know of.
