Jul-19-01, 06:54 PM (EST) "Helper engine tip!!" If you are like me and want to run helpers at the rear of the train and have the lights work without effecting the head end unit here's what you do. I don't want to dedicate a downloaded loco to helper service so I create an exact copy of a drivable loco folder and call it for example; dash9helper, and insert the folder into trainset. If you did everything right it will show up in the consist editer. To create a helper, copy the original folder and change all required places ( I think it was a download by Scott Borschardt that has a readme showing all the areas to change to create a new loco) by adding "helper" to the end of the name and descriptions in the engine and s. file as well as the file names of engine, sd. and s. Call your new folder helper also. Also open the engine file and change the light sections as follows; dim light "unit" to >3 head light top bright "unit" to >3 head light bottom bright "unit" to >3 This will allow the helpers lights to be on in flip mode without effecting the lead units lights. When helpers are run at the rear of the train the lights are on dim in dim mode and bright in bright mode. In almost all cases the head lights on the trailing helpers should be on dim when the head lights on the head end unit are on bright. TO acomplish this change the head light top bright and head light bottom bright "ffffffff" facters to >90ffffff. You can change the intencity by changing the first two digits to whatever below 90. The ditch lights will not be on also. When you build a consist put the normal loco at the front add cars and add the helper at the rear in flip mode. Have fun!
