May-28-01, 08:56 AM (EST) "This looks like some cool stuff, answer this question please." I keep reading about the editors that will be included with MSTS.
I have always been somewhat of a train nut and I am wondering if it will be possible to recreate any route and what the difficulty will be. The area where I live, Connellsville Pa, has a hell of a railroad history and I can think of a few routes right off the bat that would be a blast.
1. Western Maryland from Connellsville to Cumberland or even to Baltimore. The section from Connellsville to Cumberland is now a bike trail. Could even interchange with the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie at Connellsville. This is now a bike trail also.
2. B&O Main line from Baltimore to Pittsburgh.
3. Southwest Branch of the Pennsylvania from Greensburg Pa through Connellsville and on to Uniontown. Some of this line still exists in places and it used to serve numerous coal mines in the past.
Sounds to me like this thing could possibly be more addicting than Flight Simulator.

From what I've seen and read, the most difficult part of recreating a railroad would be actually getting enough information about those routes to map it out. But it depends on how detailed you want to get. I have a map the shows railroad routes on it, and if I were to do it by map only, I'd be guessing about the scenery and such. It's your choice if you want to actually go along those railroads, find out what kind of trains run along them, and take notes about where all the buildings and landmarks are. It's only as detailed as you want it to be.Again, that's just my best guess as I haven't gotten my hands on the game yet. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Train-Sim comes with a variety of editors, so you can add to or change any aspect of the sim.I've taken a brief look at the route editor and it's a bit complicated. The press beta did not include the tutorial or the complete docs so I've decided to hold off trying to use it until the real version is available. As far as I know, you can do anything with the route editor that the original designers of the sim did, so it's just a matter of spending the time doing the research and then putting it into the editor and you can do any route you want.
