Jul-13-01, 07:00 PM (EST) "MSTS or Trainmaster" After some work and long conversation with MS got the MS sim to work. Not a real comp expert so can only run activities given in the program. dont have a clue how to develop my own. running the MSTS activities seem easy enuf. saw trainmaster advertised in trains mag. price was about twice what i paid for MSTS. got great deal at best buy. Is train master a more realistic sim program from the aspect of train and rail ops? MSTS scenery is nice but so what. an overhead picture of my crashed acela did not do much for my train running ego. any thoughts from train sim owners/operators of both programs as to which is better. thnx Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-13-01, 08:35 PM (EST) 1. "RE: MSTS or Trainmaster" I have both simulators and enjoy them both. The MS simulator is head and shoulders over Trainmaster for graphics. Trainmaster is head and shoulders over MS for accuracy of train dynamics.
The MS sim does a lot but what little Trainmaster does, it does it bug free. Their earlier versions were even better for someone who values the information necessary to evaluate how a train actually runs. How can anyone judge how much power is needed to move a certain train over a route when the controlling grade and the tonnage of the train is unknown. This is the dilemma posed by users of MSTS. Even if these things are known, the operational characteristics of the various units are not even close to the prototypes as this toy comes out of the box. Thankfully it is not too difficult to look up the specs on these units and correct them and we have some people doing just that along with the helpful observations of several men who have hands on experience with the prototypes.I guess the only answer to your question must be "Take your choice, a sim that has great value as a toy and leaves nothing to the imagination or a sim that requires a good imagination but is closer to reality in its functions." The difference is akin to reading a story in a book or seeing the movie. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

It's not worth buying Trainmaster. It's totally crap compared to MSTS. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
