I'm still at my grandma's house. On the show on TLC this afternoon called World's Greatest Explosions a train derailed and exploded and one of the explosions launched a 6 ton tanker car 3/4 of a mile. When the one explosion happened you could see on the news camera it go flying but it didn't look like it went 3/4 of a mile.Adam
They appear to have gotten the distance wrong and also the weight of the car. An empty tank car seems to be anywhere from 35 to 50 tons, if my HO scale cars are correctly marked. Of course, a flying car wouldn't include the trucks, but I still doubt a tank car body is anywhere close to 6 tons.I'm guessing that a smaller piece of the wreckage might have been blown 3/4 of a mile away, that would be very possible.Cliff
actually 35 tons sounds about right... there is a Tanker yard 2 blocks away from me and i do remember seeing markings of that nature, if i have time some time this week i'll take a walk over and Check the "Empty" Weight out.Bob Philadelphia, Pa
Well Xacto, they had a photo of the tank car a little bit crushed with a farmer standing up against (it landed in his field) it but I don't think the trucks were there. It was also a loaded tanker car that went flying but who knows with the media.Adam
