This lady would like to thank some people here and not the ones you may think.I went looking through the Route Builder's archive after a search for something didn't work. I figured that I was probably wording it wrong and decided to scan through the threads in the archive. I took a look at those who started getting the information, experience and know how that we seem to be taking for granted here at train-sim.Similar questions, similiar problems and no one teaching them, they were picking it up on their own. Getting just as frustrated as many here have been. A number of the names you'd recognize, a great many I didn't recognize. There are many more than I've listed here...Milwaukee Road

TucsonCoyoteI found a thread that made me chuckle, disappearing threads has happened before when the forum was updated...http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=69&forum=DCForumID6&viewmode=allThe frustrations were there as well, people wanting to throw in the towel...http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=90&forum=DCForumID6&viewmode=allFirst reskins, problems with creating ace files from tga files, problems with laying track, signals, questions of whether to lay track first or road first, placing objects in routes, uploading routes, graphics programs....Many times the questions posted didn't get answered by others, they had to keep exploring and trying on their own.
The tutorials and things that we find about now, that people post links to for us, the utilities that we use, all had their origins in these people. Their trial and errors have made things that much more easier for us. I can make posts on how to reskin, how to use Geometry Extractor and placing objects in routes. I didn't discover it on my own, these men did that before me. Each person adding to the knowledge of others. The group growing and expanding. Take a look at those beginning threads, it will give you an appreciation of the knowledge that is being passed on here. Now when someone comes to the forum and posts questions we jump in with tutorials and links to help them out. I'm beginning to wonder if I could have stayed with MSTS had that not happened to me, if I had to figure it out all on my own.I have a greater respect for 'old timers'. I always had respect for them, but now... now, I have a better appreciation for the work they did and are still doing. From this 'newbie', I thank each and everyone of you for staying with it, for working through the frustrations, for exploring the possibilities and for sharing and passing on your knowledge.

RE: Thank You......

DR, It is so good to have you here in the forums. You help so much to bring things into balance when all hell is breaking loose. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you have said. I am not one of the "pioneers" but I think I have helped a few people.I have come to the conclusion that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE in MSTS! It may take awhile for someone to figure out a way but they WILL do it. The talent here is unbelievable. I am confident that someone will even figure out how to make a working turntable!!Now if we could just do something about a 14-year old kid who is now popping up in all the forums. Well that's another subject for another discussion.BTW, I downloaded your screensaver. I like your concept. I only wish the images were a little sharper. I realize they are live video screenshots and there is not much that can be done to enhance them. The idea and your presentation is excellent and very moving.

RE: Thank You......

Cal,Email me the ones you want and I can make them a bit sharper in PSP, but not today. That will have to wait until I can sit for longer than ten minutes without screaming. It's hell getting old.

DR,For some reason our contemporaries never bothered to tell us that growing old is not for sissies or the faint of heart. Right now I'm scratching a leg that isn't there anymore. Well, I just have more time to spread "Hate and Discontent amongst the Troops". Buck up Little Soldier and live long enuf to "Give Em Hell"! Best Regards..........Grumpy

RE: Thank You......

Don,I want to know what happened to growing old gracefully? Damn.. that's right you have to be graceful in the first place for that to apply... I thought the quote was "Give em hell, Harry!" but then the few brain cells I have are nearly all gone, old age again.

I too would like to voice my appreciation to all the people before us.......and there are still plenty here now.......Thanks all....
Nope, growing old gracefully is not a term that applies to me......that is for sure.........Aches where you never had aches, can't do things you feel in your mind you can do........Etc etc, nope growing old isn't fun.........but we all have to do it eventually......I just wish I had taken care of myself better when I was younger.......words of advice to the younger set........someday you will wish you had.........oh well.........
Thanks for the thread DR........always good to get your input......
From one oldie to another oldie.........keep smiling.......
