This morning I finally took the liberty to drive on that mysterious helix buried in a mountain on Marias pass. From what I can tell, the helix loops atleast eight times. I didnt go all the way, but I did save the activity so I can always go back.

It is on the default MP. I guess Microsoft forgot all about it.

No, I think that is one of those things that cropped up and couldn't be deleted. I made a complete copy of the route, then tried to get rid of it from the RE and fried the whole thing. There are quite a few routes with little odds and ends like this.RobertR

Te helix actually stops above itself, there is no other straightaway other than the tunnel.

Aren't those Spiral Tunnels on the Maple Leaf Tracks Kinging Horse Pass up/downgrade on curves?

I'm sure that the sim is capable of grades on a curve; there is a spectacular one, all on a bridge, in the 'Seaview-2' route (near Sky City) by Bill Burnett. As for a helix in a tunnel, there is one in the 'Cliffhanger' route by Michael Vone, and I believe that there is also one on the 'Abula' route by Michael.

On the original NEC route, there are some stray tracks northwest of the Baltimore station and a few other places I cannot remember.

To actually get the option to drive on the helix, you need to create a new path. I named mine Mystery Track. The Helix has no name to it so you will have to come up with the start point and end point names.

I can't find it. I went into the activity editor, chose new activity and brought up the map. I looked all over near Coram and there is no isolated piece of track. Is it possible that the "MS Patch" removed it?

Cal you have to bring up tools and go in really close to Coram and keep moving in (magnify) and you'll first see one dot then two dots and then you will see the route, I made an activity for it, but have to go back in and take out one of the consists lol Darkfyre crashed right away.--Start at the open curve side and finish at the spiral side lol~DR

I'm sorry. I still can't find it. I think the MS update patch deleted it. I have zoomed in all over the target area and find nothing but white.

calr, try extracting this zip into ....\Train Simulator\ROUTES\USA2\PATHS
Then select MP and look for start point "Loop". If you see it select it, and start from there.
If you get some kind of error about path not being there, go back to that folder and delete Loop.patGeorgi

No good! I tried your suggestion. It doesn't show up in the sim. In RE, it shows "broken path". On the map, the start and end points show in red with a straight red line between them. There is no track shown at that location. I still think the patch deleted it. I could try loading Marias Pass from cd but I think that is too risky. Thanks for your help, anyway. I'll just enjoy watching everyone else talk about it!

If you create a path taking you down to the starting curve and crash there, your train will look like its high in the sky!(here i am with a dash-8 and 20 or so road railers)

If you installed the first 3rd party remodel of Marias Pass (can't remember who did it), the Helix was removed in the release. If I remember right, it actually overwrote the original.

I discovered that I had installed MP2. I decided to reinstall MP1 from the MSTS CD so I deleted USA2. I then proceeded to try to load the CDs only to find that both of my MSTS CDs were damaged and no backups. Panic city. I aborted the install and tried to run the sim...Blue scree of death. I rebooted and tried again. It ran OK this time. I have arranged for someone to send me copies of his cd's. In the meantime I have restored MP1 from a backup tape. I will try it as soon as I have finished backing up my route.Backup your installation CDs. You never know when you are going to need them.

Sorry to hear your having rotton luck, Cal. Hope you get everything straightened out.
I made a copy of disk 1 onto a cd, but I can't make a copy of disk 2. I think it's some kind of piracy protection.
So far, I've been lucky. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MSTS so many times, I'm surprised I haven't worn out the disks.
What's going to really suck is when you realize the Helix wasn't worth all this d**n aggravation.

getacopy of clone cd 4 (do an inet search for it) I had the same prob copying disk 2 till someone turned me on to this grat program, copys virtually all kins of cds, copy right or not!

I found this out accidentally while testing a new car. Try setting the weight on a car to 0t, and load it in a consist with some heavy cars, then try it out in the sim. Watch it fly straight up like a rocket. Sometimes you even get the "train derailed" message before it comes back down...Rob

ROFL!I've always seen that strange-looking track in Activity Editor... and now I know what it is!I thought that was some part of the scenery, after all on the NEC there are several tracks that model the Washington Metro and what I think is the CSX or NS freight line going through there...------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to involved with trains, the Union Pacific!
