its in the town of Chapman Nebraska and with a loaded coal train from Wyoming to the East! a sds 45 is a passenger road engine!

Hmmm very odd, but obviously CSX and UP have leasing deals...Recently somebody spotted NS and KCS engines up in Seattle, and there's a picture in Trains magazine of a UP train going through a town not to far from my home in Abilene, Texas, that has a blue Conrail engine in between two UP engines....So I say again CSX (which includes Conrail) has leasing deals with the UP.It seems there's not too much competition! lol BNSF has deals with UP to go through Abilene as a shortcut, and the UP has engine leasing deals with CSX!------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to involved with trains, the Union Pacific!CSX sd 45 in middle of a UP sd45 and cw 4400! – image 1

Today I saw a pair of Wisconsin Central SD-40s leading a CSX SD-40. I'm not sure if CSX had any deals with WC, but I know CN just had a huge auction of some WC power. Maybe CSX grabbed some power at bargain basement prices.
It was nice to see the Wisconsin power, though. I just spent almost a week in Wisconsin, and didn't see any WC, just Wisconsin Southern in Janesville.

<<I have seen CN units with Norfolk Southern units with them up here in Winnipeg a couple times now>> Those probably would be from a haulage agreement at Buffalo, NY established between CN and NS. The trains originate on CN at Toronto then are handed off to NS at Buffalo then they take it Allentown along the former Pennsy Buffalo Line and vice versa. The trains almost always run with CN power through here. This will be changing in a matter of days, as the trains will be rerouted to the ex-Lackawanna Southern Tier Line and the CN power wil be changed at Buffalo instead of running down the NS line with it. Then the other two road trains on the Buffalo Line will be rerouted about two months later, leaving the highly scenic line that onced had 40 plus trains a day will now have zero road trains.------------------------------

I seen a few years back a UP engine with a odd consist in Baltimore, MD. The consist had 3 different western RR egines a conrail and a NS engine. It boggled my mind and I wish I had a camera at the time.John

Train races? hmm lol that reminds me. When I was in Kansas City, MO(which I lived there for about five years), I saw a Union Pacific train (headed by GEs) backing up a siding, when a BNSF train was pointing in the opposite direction heading forward at the same speed. It was an odd site to see! lolP.S. There is an AWESOME CUSTOM-MADE 2-rail O-gauge layout in Minneanapolis, MN! It's in some place that has a train theme to it. CSX doesn't own any sd45's that i'm aware of, but they do have some sd45-2's. CSX and UP have their refrigerated trains that run west to east and they normally have all UP consists all the way east. its not uncommon for foreign power to stay on a train and come this far east (syracuse, ny). i've seen in the last couple years, SP, BNSF, ATSF, BN, NS, CN, NYSW, and of course lots of icky UP power, all run through power in syracuse.joeTKW

I do not recall an SD 45 being a "road passenger engine." I would be surprised if there are any remaining sd 45 engines on the CXS. The original SCL black and yellow SD45 engines were in the 2000 number series and they were not used for passenger service. Amtrak had some SDP 45 engines in the early 70's (bloody noses) that replaced the E and F units they inherited from the railroads at the inception of Amtrak. They did not last too long since they seemed to have a difficult time keeping them on the rails.The Class One Railroads lease "engine hours" from each other. Sometimes to pay for the used engine hours, one road will "loan" an engine to the road to which they owe hours. Once the out of balance hours are equalled, the engine comes back home. I believe it used to be called "pool power" where a road would use whatever engines were available at a large interchange yard such as KC or Chicago.We see CN engines on the CSX and UP engines on the NS here in Eastern VA (Norfolk). Seen UP SD40-2s all the way up in Massachusetts on the Boston Line, at least 800 mi from UP, and NS, CP, PLM (a loco leaser), and CSX on a Guilford coal train exchanged with CR (now CSX)!!!!!!

You see a lot of different power up here where I live. Once I seen an NS autorack train come through my town with nothing but UP power and I also seen a grain train through here with solid CSX power! Also another grain train I seen, couldnt really catch the units but. One of them was light blue and had no markings on it and another one had something that looked like it said Wheeling or something on it. Also see BNSF power on the intermodals through here. Very interesting power for it being so far away from the mid-west.

I grew up in Mass. Back 20 years ago, I was stationed at MCRD San Diego. The Santa Fe coast line ran right by the back gate. Lots of pig trains at night. One night a train rolled through with 2 Conrail SD40-2's sandwiched between a UP SD40-2 and SP SD45t-2. There was a Santa Fe Bluebonnet F45 on the point.
Fast forward to 1984. Back home. The B&M was in the process of being absorbed into Guilford. Guilford was buying secondhand power from everywhere. They got Santa Fe SD26's among other things. The fleet travelled the road extensively before getting totally repainted. Later on, as the Guilford loco fleet deteriorated, some Conrail units made it all the way to Portland ME. Conrail units were entrenched on the coal trains.
Fast forward again to last year.NS & CSX -8/9's are common sights on the coal trains. One sample train of Powder River coal came through. Had a Guilford GP40w on the point, and 3 BNSF SD75M's. Super Fleet warbonnets no less.

Certified B&M nut!

Are you certain these were not SD40-2s? This does not sound like a correct consist. I think you might have misidentified the older locomotives. AC4400s also are not usually MUed with older locomotives, certainly not with pre Dash 2 designs.

the most common freight trains that come through here is mostly coal, some, intermodal, quite a bit of auto, and once in a while mix freightoh and extreme amounts of covered hoppers! for the corn! LOL
