Jul-10-01, 10:26 PM (EST) "Help! tried to fix coupler problem using notepad, know I can't use any trains!!" Please help! I have well over 150 cars and locomotives in my collection. I read a post about editing the .wag files to prevent uncoupling, did so using notepad, and now they won't work. Then I changed them back to original and they still won't work. What could I download that would allow me to edit these files other than notepad. ?

If you don't want to reinstall (I assume you have custom cars) try opening a few with wordpad, then saving and make sure it has the .con extension (or .wag or .eng, depending on what it is) because notepad probably saved it as something like US2hopper.txt or US2hopper.con.txt, and the filename the program is looking for isn't there.

Jul-10-01, 11:11 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Help! tried to fix coupler problem using notepad, know I can't use any trains!!" If you associate the extension .wag with notpad the first time you open it, it will save correctly.Derek tm4@leder.com.au Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-10-01, 11:34 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Help! tried to fix coupler problem using notepad, know I can't use any trains!!" Thanks for the help. What I modified was the following line:original file:
B r e a k ( 1 . 1 e 7 N 1 . 1 e 7 N )
Then I modified the line to this:
B r e a k ( 5 . 1 e 7 N 5 . 1 e 7 N ) Then, I changed it back and it still didn't work. One thing that came to me was that I had word wrap on. then I just turned it off.I also noticed there are two black blocks behind each line in notepad. When I pasted it here they weren't there hmmm....It resaved as a .wag file.....I will try reassociating it and resaving it as a wordpad file. I have nothing to loose, except everything
I will get back to everyone as soon as I reassociate open and save all files to wordpad. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

DON'T ever associate .wag, .eng, .sd or .con files to open with Notepad, you meant to say WordPad. Notepad will corrupt the files because it does not support Unicode, which is the character set that the files use. You MUST use Wordpad or another Unicode supporting text editor to open the files. If you have opened and then saved them in Notepad, then they are most likely corrupted, perhaps permanently. Do you have backup copies? I think you'll now need them. Jul-12-01, 11:03 AM (EST) 10. "RE: Help! tried to fix coupler problem using notepad, know I can't use any trains!!" Discovered the Problem! The notepad program supplied with windows ME did corrupt those files! I re-associated .wag's and .eng's with wordpad, and re-opened a few files that I hadn't re-saved as notepad documents. Total difference. Then I tried to open an altered one. blocks and sims. So my opinion to everyone is....IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPEND AN ENTIRE DAY DOWNLOADING ALL YOUR FILES, BACK THEM UP FOR ONE, SECOND, ONLY USE WORDPAD TO ALTER FILES!Have a nice day!
