I just recently upgraded my system to a A7V333 AMDXP 1900 1.6gig. Though I didn't have to load XP over again, ever since then when I start MSTS about 50% of the time I get the blue screen of death stating "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and sometimes a few hints saying paging file source or NTFS.sys or something to that effect having errors. I have a separate HD partition (NTFS) that I use specifically for page file source between 800meg to 3.3gig. Sometimes I get the usual XP error block to ask about sending the error to M$.I reloaded MSTS and erased all the original resistry files prior to the new fresh install. Everything went well, however I still get the blue screen of death about 50% of the time. Any hints or help would be greatly appreciated.Thank, KipGetting XP Blue screen on MSTS – image 1

RE: Getting XP Blue screen on MSTS

Kip,Boot from the XP cd and tell it to install in the same directory, it will then ask if you want to repair the installation, say yes.It looks like it is installing again but no settings will be lost.
I have just had to do this for a friend when he changed motherboard.Derek

RE: Getting XP Blue screen on MSTS

Doing the XP "repair" is something I will do later today. I did look into my IRQ setting for my hardware. My video and sound card were sharing the same IRQ...no good. I did the ole' swaparoo with a few PCI slots and now all my PCI (modem, sound, agp card) cards have their own IRQ. I have run MSTS a few times with no errors so far...however I will do the XP "overwrite" repair later. Thanks!!KipGetting XP Blue screen on MSTS – image 2

RE: Getting XP Blue screen on MSTS

Kip,Xp can share IRQ's without a problem (normally) unlike 9x.
My win2000 install has the video card shared with the network card.Derek

RE: Getting XP Blue screen on MSTS

I had troubles with IRQ's when I put in my new sound card to try to fix MSTS, it still didn't fix it and I spent a month on the phone with DELL Tech Support just to get it back to normal!
My friend is getting Windows XP in his new DELL Dimension 8200 PC that's really souped up. I'm getting MSTS for him for Christmas. Are you telling me that it's not going to work right with Windows XP?Adam

RE: Getting XP Blue screen on MSTS

I've been told about XP sharing IRQ's without too many problems, however I am leery of that statement. This isn't the first time I had IRQ sharing "conflicts" in XP. After moving my hardware to other IRQ's of their own, the "blue screen of death" has been absent. I have started up and ran MSTS all morning...no errors...none. Yesterday and the day before, I would get at least 3 or 4 error messages including a blue screen. Today, so far, none; and I've been TRYING to make it fail....didn't happen. I have not done the XP overwrite repair utility on the XP CD install disk yet, but I plan to soon. I'm not saying that XP can use shared IRQ's flawlessly, but after what I experienced I have my own conclusions that show something differently.KipGetting XP Blue screen on MSTS – image 3

RE: Getting XP Blue screen on MSTS

I'm glad it went so well for you guys. Me? I did the same and now device manager says that my video card is unplugged? That's real cute MS. Same thing for my monitor, and many other things. I'm really at a loss here. Can anyone lend a hand?

RE: Getting XP Blue screen on MSTS

I've been using MSTS all day..no errors or blue screens whatsoever. Changing my PCI cards in the slots did the trick by having their own IRQ's assigned. KipGetting XP Blue screen on MSTS – image 10

RE: Getting XP Blue screen on MSTS

I follow AMD's recommendations for PC building even when just installing a new OS. That is, i boot the PC with the HD, FD, CDrom, and Video card installed. Then i one by one add other components into the system until evrything is installed and operational. Time consuming, yes, but i end up with a rock-solid machine that never BSODs (bad video drivers notwithstanding). Can't say that will work for everyone, but it has never done me wrong!------- BUZZ
