Jul-01-01, 05:31 PM (EST) "Texture Glitches" I have a 3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 AGP graphics card. One of the best on the market. But apparently, TrainSim doesn't like it. Every once and awhile I see little dis-colorations in trees, buildings, even on the trains, inside and outside. Can someone explain this to me. Are there settings I need to change? Jul-01-01, 05:46 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Texture Glitches" This has been reported by every voodoo owner on this board. The only solution is to ALT-TAB out to the desktop, then ALT-TAB back in. You have to do this for every activity. You'll probably also have a problem with activities in snow, start the MSTS troubleshooter and 'x' the crash with snow check mark to fix that. If you have grid lines showing up in the cab view, check that in the troubleshooter also. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-01-01, 06:35 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Texture Glitches" I wouldn't say every Voodoo owner. Mine works wonderfully well, if not a tick slow at full detail setting. I have the latest version of DirectX and latest drivers for the card. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-01-01, 08:23 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Texture Glitches" No texture problems at all? What card have you got and what drivers?
I'm using the last official beta drivers from 3dfx, on a voodoo5. I've tried others but they all seem to mess one thing or another up. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-01-01, 10:37 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Texture Glitches" I said "if not a tick slow", meaning it is a little slow at times depending on the size of the train and also which route i'm on, not to mention if the terrain is object heavy.Sorry i didn't explain but i'm using a Voodoo 3 instead of the 5 you're using with the 1.07 version driver. I've had no need to upgrade becuase my system runs every game i have pretty darn well (Quake 2 + 3, Soldier of Fortune, the entire Rainbow 6 series, CFS, CFS2, FS2K, Falcon 4.0, Sim Theme Park, Gettysburg, Age of Empires, and probably a few i've forgotten about.).In MSTS i usually don't run very long of a consist. Maybe 50 cars max. I'd rather enjoy looking at pretty scenery than have a huge consist to pull. I can't imagine the Voodoo 5 being so incredibly different that you'd have problems running MSTS. If anything it should be better. I posted a thread in the General forum asking who's having problems with which cards. You may want to check it out and post your comments. Or you can wait who knows how long till a patch comes out, if one does. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-22-01, 01:04 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Texture Glitches" Hate to bust your bubble, "finest card on the market" but one of the primary reasons 3dfx folded was crap like the voodoo4 and voodoo5. I had a voodoo3 2000 PCI, which ran faster than the voodoo 2 I had before that, which in turn ran faster than the banshee I had before that. So I was a confiirmed faithful voodoo freak, and paid zero attention to the NVIDIOTS, and bought a voodoo4-4500 AGP. Holy framerates, NO performance increase AT ALL over the voodoo3 2000, and that's not only going to a more expensive model, it's also going from PCI to AGP! I kept the faith for almost a year, SURE that they were going to come out with a driver update that was going to fix the problem, then I gave up and bought an Annihilator 2. I did a lot of testing, on a super socket 7 with an AMD K6-2 450, and an asus A7V with a
Thunderbird 800, and on most games and benchmarks the voodoo 3 was actually a little faster, and considerably more stable, and didn't have the blurring, pixelating, tearing, locking up crashing that that overpriced pos vodoo4 had. 3DFX had the formula, but somewhere between the 3 and the 4 they lost it. Get an NVIDIA based card, and do what i did with my voodoo - it's hanging next to an ATI card as a wind chime. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-26-01, 01:46 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Texture Glitches" I have to agree with sniper.I had a voodoo5 for a long while and finally got a geforce2 when I got my new system. There is no comparison. The major drawback from what I have read deals with the dual chips on the voodoo card.In games the voodoo3 outperforms the voodoo5 because most games to date only used one of the 2 chips on the card.I know you're thinking I'm nuts but try it by setting the card to single chip and you won't see much of a difference if any at all.You also have to remember that the voodoo cards were built around glide. They have a tough time rendering opengl and direct3d with any kind of speed. Jul-28-01, 01:41 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Texture Glitches" Thanks for your information regarding Voodoo4 and 5 cards. I tried running Train Sim with a Voodoo 4 graphics card on a Pentium 3 733mhz machine. I had numerous texture glitches and random lockups even after reinstalling on numerous occasions and using different settings. After reading this I decided to abandon the Voodoo card and got myself a ATI Raedon card. The result - no lockups or texture glitches! This has sloved my problem anyway. A pity really because the old Voodoo 3 PCI card that I used to use was great. I've found that shutting mipmapping off cures my red'n'blue scenery. Also, do not use FSAA.Regards

It is great no problems with anything except I made a train with 150 intermodel cars and it had a hard time drawing all of that, but no other problems at all! The colors look great also I am running 512 megs of ddr ram, cant complain here :0 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
