Jun-29-01, 09:14 PM (EST) "Which Vid cards are we having luck with and which ones are probs" I just wanted to know what Video card everyone is running and if they're having problems. I'm looking to upgrade and would like to purchase one that i know more than likely will work. Besides, this would be some good info for those just getting into the sim.I'm running a Voodoo3 3000 PCI card with zero problems. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Which Vid cards are we having luck with and which ones are probs" I have a gf2 64MB nvida on 512MB SD RAM (!), still have a framerate drop when viewing the train passing by (view mode 4) as well as during the stormy weather, not a little framrate drop, a pretty noticable one, now THAT should tell you that you have NO chance at running it 100% well (unless there's a way to adjust the settings within the computer that I'm not aware of)

Jul-02-01, 07:52 AM (EST) 14. "RE: Which Vid cards are we having luck with and which ones are probs" Crashes, stalls, MS mouse drivers could be a problem for many of us. I like MSTS, but it crashes often for no reason, & especially with much use of mouse. Have tried all common remedies found in this forum, with no help.System: W2K(SP2, all updates),256MB-ram,933P3,IE5.5, Matrox G400 MAX, matrox drivers 5.52(latest) or 5.32 (latest,MS-certified), 1024X768X16, 32 bit Z-buffering option checked & Bus mastering checked, latest mouse drivers, using (USB) Intellimouse Explorer, 15Krpm Seagate HD, very fast & stable system, FS2000 no problems.Anybody using Matrox G400 Max, W2K, having problems? Any solutions?Until MS issues a FIX for MSTS, it's no fun to play with all the crashes. It's hard to believe this is just a Matrox issue. Is GeForce 3 the answer? Thanks for your comments. Jul-02-01, 09:23 PM (EST) 20. "RE: Which Vid cards are we having luck with and which ones are probs" I'm running Windows ME with 320meg ram, Viper II 32meg agp card, Monster Sound MX400, Maxtor ata100 hard drive. Did have a P-III 750 in it before it quite working. Currently using my old P-II 266 which is giving frames of 3 to 5 per second when set to max resolution and all controls set to max. If I can't get the P-III to work I've got an Athlon motherboard that will be going in. When I first got MSTS I loaded it on my other computer which has a Stealth III 540, ata33 hard drive, AMD K6-2 450 running Windows 98se. I was getting frames of 7 to 11 when set to max. However their where several times when loading events it would freeze. wpnscaler Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-04-01, 08:11 AM (EST) 22. "RE: Which Vid cards are we having luck with and which ones are probs" I'm running Win2000(sp2), 512MB memory with (2) PIII 1 Ghz processors.
I have had nothing but crashes. As little as the MS little blue screen with the "send or don't send file" option (GAME CRASH), to the Big Blue screen that crashes the computer and restarts (SYSTEM CRASH). My limited observations so far.1. With Matrox Millenium G450 w/32 MB ram. Lot's of game crashes. Minimized with lower resolutions and lower graphics settings. FPS from a low of "1" to a high of "20". "20" was achieved with game setings of 800x600x16 with the display options tab at 2 setting to the left of "best graphics" slide.
The one plus was that the game and activities loaded very fast.I decided to get a GeForce2 MX400 with 64MB ram with 12.41.
2. Game loaded slower, Setting were 1024x768x32. no game crashes, FPS between 10 and 35. Upon exit, SYSTEM CRASHES every time. MS Tech support determined a bug in 12.41 drivers with win2000. Used 7.58 certified and the SYSTEM CRASHES went away.. Of course I did not leave well enough alone and was unhappy with the slower game and activity loads.I decided to exchange the GEFORCE2 for a GEFORCE3 with 64MB.
3. Setting were 1024x768x32. no game crashes, FPS between 15 and 40. Upon exit, SYSTEM CRASHES every time. 12.41 drivers do not work with the GEFORCE3 with win2000 as well.. Used 12.00 drivers that came on the installation CD and the SYSTEM CRASHES went away. I am happy to report (so far) that I have had 2 full days of uninterupted game play.Hope this has been helpful.P.S. My experience with MS has been fairly good. I complained about the first call I made to them. The only answer was "get the latest drivers". My case was escalated to a senior person and this person spent a lot of time with me, especially with the game crashes.
Let me add that if you elect to "send file", YOU WILL NOT GET A REPONSE FROM THEM, however with a good tech person, you can send the "error signature" which you can get by doing the following.
1. Click on the "click here" link.
2. Highlight the information under the "Error Signature" section. This is found at the top of the page that has two click here buttons on the bottom of the page.
3. Press CTRL+C to copy this information and paste it into something like Notepad so that if you decide to call MS you can give them the information.
Apparently that are going to post all these "error signatures" in the Knowledge Base.
I don't know whether they are posting the win2000 and geforce 12.41 drivers problem. From what I have read the 12.90 have the same problem as th 12.41.
What an ironic respond, "use older drivers"

Jul-04-01, 06:14 PM (EST) 24. "RE: Which Vid cards are we having luck with and which ones are probs" I am using the Diamond Viper 770 ultra (Nvidia TNT2-Ultra) with the 12.41 drivers in Windows 98SE and having no problems at all. I run the sim at 1024x768x32 with all the sliders maxed and with Sky Conductor enabled. I am getting frame rates in the range of 15-30 depending on activity. I tried to use the Nvidia 5.32 drivers based on another message that stated the older driver version would be more compatable with the TNT2 chipset. The text displays were completely garbled and many video artifacts in the game. Cleaned out the older drivers and re-installed the 12.41 and instant improvement across the board. Jan-06-02, 03:00 AM (EST) 32. "RE: Which Vid cards are we having luck with and which ones are probs" Currently running MSTS with no problem using a Matrox Millenium G400 video card. But have low frame rates (down to 3fps on detailed external views), but mostly around 10~15 fps.Had a LOT of trouble with Leadtek Geforce2 pro video card. MSTS would ALWAYS freeze or reboot my computer after 30+ minutes, REGARDLESS of whether I used new or old drivers!?
The card, however, works fine on other programs! Maybe it is something to do with MSTS?Gigabyte MB GA-6VX7B-4x

Mediaforte Quad Extreme sound cardI understand that some problems may be caused by (incompatible?) drivers for VIA chipset MB's (like mine), Nvidia chip based video cards, and sound cards.I tried using old and new drivers for all combinations of the above, but found very little improvement, until I replaced the Geforce2 video card!
