Apr-21-01, 08:57 AM (EST) "SATCO for Trains?" LAST EDITED ON Apr-21-01 AT 08:59 AM (EST)I was wondering whether there was going to be any ATC(I know that's not what they call it with trains)for trainsim? I mean,Flightsimming has 2 ATC services(SATCO and IVAO),so why can't Transimming have one? I mean,in the real world, trains have dispatch(is that what it's called),so why can't trainsim have it? After all,The FS slogan is "As Real As it Gets",so why can't that apply to Trainsim? Maybe I can start one or someone else will.I have heard from a certain source that there are a few other people working on virtual train lines(VTL's)besides me,so we need an ATC service for the pilots(or,in this case, engineers).Give me some feedback on this issue,e-mail me at NYJAX2@aol.com or reply to this post.P.S. My new VTL,Virtual Go Transit, needs management staff, route designers, and train designers(the latter two starting once MSTS is released). As far as management staff,I need a Senior VP,Junior VP,Route Scheduler,COO and, eventually, train drivers starting in mid-june.I am willing to pay a small amount of money to the route designers and train designers.-Jeremy Jackson

Modern railroads could not operate without their dispatchers any more than airliners can operate without ATC. The only drawback is that MSTS does not offer multiplayer so you would not actually be able to see the other trains that other people are operating so it would require a little extra imagination when it comes to meets. Apr-21-01, 08:46 PM (EST) 2. "RE: SATCO for Trains?" Yes, w/o some kind of multiplayer connection, you can't really do a SATCO the right way. Other possible problems might be: 1) Standardizing on scenery (w/SATCO, nobody cares what you as a pilot are looking at; w/MSTS, you better have the same track config as everyone else)2) Time problems. Not being in sync, but rather that in real world railroading, lower priority trains (i.e. coal drags) can sit idle for hours if there are other higher prio trains (i.e. intermodals) in the area. And even high prio trains can sit in the siding for 30 mins waiting for a meet. In SATCO, folks can keep flying, and may even prefer to be directed about by the ATC; in MSTS, I'm not going to spend my evening's gaming staring at a red signal.3) No dispatcher screen. SATCO has ProController; MSTS has no such corresponding program, and without multiplayer and an API, I'm guessing that it'd be hard/impossible to write one.Mind you, I'm really hoping MSTS-2 addresses these issues (at least #1 & #3) in some way, since I'd really like to see some form of interaction between engineer and dispatcher, but I'm still not sure how #2 above would be solved...Regards,
Dave

Apr-22-01, 07:58 PM (EST) 3. "RE: SATCO for Trains?" Actually, one way to satisfy #2 above came to me last night after I posted: you could at least have a single crew working together, whether in a yard or on a local. The guys on the ground would have to "walk" to get to their cars, and the hotspot to click on to make or break a connection would only be visible when you looked between the cars. That comes closer to "as real as it gets", methinks.Dave Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
