Jun-27-01, 08:32 PM (EST) "Can not get Train Sim to run" Finaly got my copy yesterday morning, thought that I may have a problem or two at first, so arranged to have the day off work to set it up.24 hours later I am still trying to get it to run. has any one else had this problem who can help me?Some times I can get in to the cab, and the system locks up on me, other time's I can only get as far as the "Initlization & loading Complete Bar" then it locks up at the end.I have tried every way i can think of to get it to run.I am running a: PIII 1000, with 252 meg ram. Nvida GeForce 2mx x 32meg card I have all the latest drivers. There are no conflicts that i can see on the system. When I try to run it I generaly have around 60% 70% of system resources free. Virtual mem. is set to Auto.I have X-Plane 5.66 running fine, FS98 and Links 2000 run fine as do various other odds and sods

Jun-27-01, 10:33 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Can not get Train Sim to run" Try some different versions of the Detonator Driver versions. Sometimes, the latest are not the best for every system.I'd suggest dropping down to version 10.80 or even to 6.50. Then come back up till you have problems. They (Guru) say the 6.50s are the most stable. Im running version 6.31 with no problems and MSTS looks good. Here's a good site read & learn abt Det' drivers. Go to the forums.http://www.guru3d.com/ Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-28-01, 04:26 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Can not get Train Sim to run" Hi there, I had a similar problem. Before you go into a activity check your display in the options section and select the 32 bit instead of the 16 bit display and then try to get into the activity. As soon as I change my settings to 32 bit instead of the default 16bit display everything worked fine.Hope this helps.Duane. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-28-01, 10:38 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Can not get Train Sim to run" There seems to some problem with the way MSTS moves textures around; one solution (this worked for me) is to disable AGP texturing in DxDiag Disable AGP from Dxdiag
--------------------------------
1. Click start and then Run
2. Type “dxdiag” without the quotes and hit enter
3. Click on the display tab
4. Click the Disable button to next to AGP
5. Click the Exit button Try the game againThis should adversely impact any of your other games, but if it does, just disable AGP texturing for MSTS; you can enable it for everything else. Good luck! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-04-01, 02:16 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Can not get Train Sim to run" I also had initial problems getting the sim to work... turned out, I needed the det 3 drivers... make sure your video drivers are CURRENT. This solved the issue for me.

Jul-06-01, 07:14 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Can not get Train Sim to run" I have discovered that one program in particular on my machine interferes with MSTS. this particular program runs as a TSR, and is the server section of Norton Anti Virus. It's called "poproxy.exe". If I leave it running, MSTS will hang during the initial screen with the moving bar at the bottom. If I instead go into task manager and use the "3-finger salute" to exit poproxy.exe, MSTS will USUALLY load OK, sometimes still not. But it will NEVER load properly if poproxy.exe is running.Running a 1GHZ Athlon, overclocked to 1330 MHz (the easy O/C! <G>), 512 Mb RAM, 40 GB WD drive, Gainward GeForce 2MX video card. Case temp usually around 30C, CPU usually around 45C.I'd sure like to find a cure for this -- anybody know of one? Thanks,

I run msconfig on WinME to stop background stuff from running,
and then go into the task bar and shut down everything but
sound (including Norton Antivirus) and everthing works fine.Jim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-07-01, 07:18 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Can not get Train Sim to run" I found a nifty little program called "End it all". It shuts down all running apps, same as you would do with "ctl-alt-del" but with a lot less clicks. It works great.
When you get done with MSTS, you have to reboot to turn everything back on. Unfortunatly, "End it all" won't turn your apps back on.

Jul-08-01, 10:48 AM (EST) 12. "RE: Can not get Train Sim to run" I always reboot and run End It All to close background programs prior to running MSTS. Works quite well and End It All is fast.bob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

You don't mention what video card you have, but it's a sure bet you probably need to update the drivers for it. Try any one of these as a first source for drivers:ATI video cards are here:http://support.ati.com/products/pc/index.htmlNVIDIA video cards are here:http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows9xThe NVIDIA site provides generic reference drivers for just about every make of its chipset including TNT2, GForce, GForce2 and GForce3. The site listed above is for Win95, Win98 and WinME. If you want drivers for another operating system, click on the link at the top of the sites page.

Jul-10-01, 06:30 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Can not get Train Sim to run" Thanks,I did that, and I am derailing with the best of you.Odd that my vid card would do that...Now I can't wait to grab all the free stuff out there that others have developed.A virus warning on this site would be a help,if anyone encounters one.Well,I'm off to crash... Jul-08-01, 05:54 PM (EST) 13. "RE: Can not get Train Sim to run" I have a PIII 1ghz, with 512mb ram and a Nvidia TNT2 Ultra using Detonator 12.41 drivers. The game runs great. I tried as an experiment running the game with Detonator 5.32 drivers because I had read in a post that they were more stable with this card. They caused noticeble problems in the sim, so I reverted back to the 12.41 drivers and have been happy since. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
