I kind of said english...BVE is japanese. unless someone has the english conversion complete, I won't be getting it. last time I tried it it wouldn't work because it is japanese and instructions on how to make it english were to compicated. Apr-22-01, 08:04 PM (EST) 3. "RE: any other train sims around?" Yes, I too gave BVE a try, but found it a bit wanting in the English department. Black 5 is supposed to come out with a beta over the next few days; that's a British driving sim that's got some decent screenshots on their website. They're at www.black5.co.uk. And yes, it's free. I'm really hoping that'll tide me over until MSTS comes out.(FWIW, I also found BVE sorely lacking "pause" and "save game" options. If I want to run a 1 hour schedule in BVE, I need an hour. I have a newborn at home; I rarely have an hour... Dave

Apr-23-01, 11:04 AM (EST) 5. "RE: any other train sims around?" I too found BVE very frustrating, but once you get it going, and download some trains/tracks created by English speaking people, it is a very rewarding program, I've done some runs on London and New York Subways, really fun. This website gives detailed step by step instructions which were the only reason I could get BVE running: http://www.trainsim.org.uk/bve.htmlDave Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-23-01, 11:13 AM (EST) 6. "RE: any other train sims around?" Yes, Vern's got good instructions for getting it running. I even dug through some of the route files and made up schedules so I could keep from going overspeed. It's really great on the sim side, I just wish you could read the menus and pause and save. Oh well, Black5 and MSTS, where are you?Dave Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-30-01, 09:08 AM (EST) 8. "RE: any other train sims around?" Hi,BVE2 now has English language support; all text is provided in a file called string.ini.Basically, you download BVE2 from Mr Mackoy's site (forget the URL, but it's detailed on Vern's trainsim.org.uk and Barney's Crotrainz.com), and run the installer. The screens are garbage, but you can guess your way through them. Ignore the final Retry/Ignore/Cancel type error message (it doesn't seem to make any difference). Then, just copy the English string.ini file from Mackoy's site over the newly installed one, and hey presto, it's an English BVE2.BVE2 isn't perfect; it crashes sometimes, and I can't get it to work in Windows 2000 reliably. But routes like Steve and Keith's London Underground Northern Line, the Scottish Sandymill line, US Desret Freight and Heavy Coal (from Bruce K in Aus) are all great fun.Bottom line is, it's the best we've got until Black5, MSTS and Trainz put in an appearance!
