Mar-29-02, 07:42 PM (EST) "Another question for Nels--re DC Forum software" I have noticed that sometimes it takes a long time for a message to post. I was just wondering how the forum software handles pushing older messages down through the pages. When I post a new message, does everything older get pushed down one position through all 40 pages and then to archive. Or does it wait until a certain number of messages accumulate in the current page and then push them down. A third possibility is a auto manager that runs periodically to refresh the pages. Just curious. Not high priority. Again, Happy Birthday!

"RE: Another question for Nels--re DC Forum software" I did not write the DCForum software, so I'm not really up on exactly how it works. It appears that each message is actually saved as a discrete HTML page. There's also an index file from which the index page is created each time someone requests it. I suspect that only the index file gets manipulated.DCForum is, unfortunately, written in Perl and if that means anything to you, you know it means that it runs kind of slow. The forums should work faster now, though, then they did a couple of days ago as Train-Sim.Com now has its own dedicated server whereas it used to share space on www.flightsimnetwork.com which was also running a separate set of DCForums for flight simulation. It was more forums than one machine could handle so we had to split things up.

Mar-30-02, 08:46 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Another question for Nels--re DC Forum software" G'day Nels,Was having same problem as Cal for quite some time, as at times it was terrible.
Yesterday (Saturday) here in Oz the Forum was off-line, but this morning (11am Sunday) it is back on okay.
You mentioned a little while ago you were going to do something so guessed yesterday that is why the Forum was off-line for some time. I just answered a post and it was much, much better than it was before.
