Jul-06-01, 03:17 PM (EST) 2. "RE: cant open editor" I can't open the editors AT ALL, and never have been able to. My monitor won't handle the needed resolution to do so.I'd really like a BNSF coal train, if anybody might build one for me. Looking for 2 Dash-9's up front, about 100 coal cars, and a single Dash-9 in teh rear. Thanks for any help,

Jul-06-01, 03:35 PM (EST) 3. "RE: cant open editor" My monitor can't display a 1024x768 resolution, so the Editor and Tools won't function for me either. I've since learned to add locomotives and rolling stock by using MS WordPad. Just install the loco or rolling stock per its instructions, then edit an existing consist (or make a new copy) to include your new loco or rolling stock. Hope this helps.RailHig Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-06-01, 03:41 PM (EST) 4. "RE: cant open editor" I'll give that a try. I had opened the .con files in Notepad, and it looked like gibberish, Wordpad seems to work just fine. Now to find that file that already has DPU...<G>Thanks a lot!

>Earl As you have discovered, to edit any of the text files in MSTS, always use Wordpad - NEVER - Notepad. The files are stored using unicode characters, Wordpad supports this while Notepad doesn't. If you do edit the files in any text editor that does not support Unicode, the files will be rendered unusable in MSTS. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

When you uninstalled MSTS did you delete the Train Sim folder? Uninstall won't remove files you have added so you should delete the folder after uninstall has completed.

Jul-07-01, 07:10 AM (EST) 7. "RE: cant open editor" It's also not a bad idea to run Disk Defrag, either Windows version or a 3rd party version. Probably wouldn't hurt to run Scandisk as well, although, I don't think Scandisk is as necessary as Defrag, but it certainly can't hurt.
If you have Norton System Works (or something simialer), it helps to clean the registry as well.
I think it also helps if you defrag after install, too.
