Mary Had A Little Cache
Welcome to the Wayside Inn! The inn itself, originally known as Howe's Tavern, has quite a history dating back to 1716. Route 20, or the Boston Post Road as it was better known, was a major road even back then. The inn became famous as a result of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's book of poems Tales of a Wayside Inn.
The Wayside Inn Grist Mills are about a perfect as old time setting as you could ask for. Perhaps because they are not truly authentic...Henry Ford owned the property in the 1920 and built a perfect example of a classic mill.
The mill pond dates back to the earlier mills, the first of which was built in 1739. The current mill operates from April through November and visitors can buy the flour produced there.
The subject of our cache: Sterling School District #2's Redstone schoolhouse, the school to which Mary brought her infamous lamb.
Hopefully you found these important clues located in, on and around the schoolhouse. Back Mary Had A Little Cache Page at Geocaching.com Home
