I am an old time model railroader and new to MSTS. I would like to create a Seaboard E7 in the Citrus Livery of the Orange Blossom Special. All I can find are F7's. I do not know a lot about disels but I believe that the E7's were 3 wheel trucks and much longer. I am not prepared to create a locomotive from scratch (yet) but would truly like to test my reskinning skills. Any help would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure that there's some E-units in the file library created by our own J-C here at NALW.They are a few skin variants, but I know for a fact that the one you have shown above is not one of them.I believe that the cab uses the gp-38, but if you need anyhelp getting a different cab into one of those units , myself or a vast amount of people here on these forums would be willing to help you out.Have a good dayLaterTim Kent

RE: Need an E7

Thanks for the help. I cannot seem to get either of the two E7's to download so there must be some problem on the server. I will keep trying. I found a photo of an E7 cab while wandering around. We'll see how the reskinning comes out before I try to get anyone to invest time. Thanks again!

That's good news, Marc. Didn't I see a post from you saying you had a new GN F-model in the works, too?Change of subject 1: For sone reason, I can't get to www.3dtrains.com unless I pick up a link from another site. Anybody else reporting this problem?Change of subject 2: I need my key code from the Superchief set I bought a few weeks ago; downloaded the update but I'd already discarded the code. I've emailed help@3dtrains.com already for help on this.

RE: Need an E7

My post about Marc's link was imprecise and confusing. What I should have said is that google, which is my surfboard, isn't finding 3dtrains.com for me. I, too, can get there by typing in the address. As to the other point, no, I wasn't talking about Ron's F3; I now realize I should have said BN, not GN. In response to McCloud_River_John's recent bid for a new F7 in Cascade Green, Marc said "It's coming, and with a little surprise attached."

RE: Need an E7

Hi Marc,I'll keep an eye out for it. I am from Florida and I was always ingtigued by the fantasticly colorful locos used by SAL, FEC SCL. It would be nice to provide these three beautiful locos along with the correct passenger equipment for anyone wishing to model the era from 1938 through 1954.I am just a beginner at this although I do have some actual model railroading and graphic experience. If you are interested in working together to create these locos please let me know!Rick

RE: Need an E7

I hate to be too much of a nit-picker here, but I think that the engine pictured back at the beginning of this thread is an E4, not an E7. The E4 had a 'slant' nose rather than the shorter 'bulldog' nose used on the E7 and F units. Might make a difference if you want to model it as accurately as possible. So far as I know, nobody has made an E4 model for MSTS yet.

RE: Need an E7

You are probably right. As I said in the beginning, "I do not know much about diesels." I believe that SAL used a variety of E units on the Orange Blossom Special so the actual unit I reskin is not too important. I am mostly intrigued by the paint job. It was one of the most attractive of all of the name train paint jobs. That is a great photo! You would not happen to have it in color would you? I pulled out some of the railroad books that I bought back in the 1970's and there were a few photos to work from. One of my biggest questions is what happens to the yellow paint as it completes the arc at the top rear and goes on up onto the roof? If anyone has an answer to that I would be grateful. Thanks for your input and you were not being a nit picker. It should not be considered nit picking when you have a valid point and make the correction in a manner that is not offensive. Thanks!

Looks to be like a E4! Don't think that is an E7.Also everything up from the first E unit to the E6 has slanted noses.Adam

Paint in some stainless corugation from about the top of the lower yellow stripe down to the fuel skirts and you've got a CB&Q E-5Gary S

RE: Need an E7

Marc has some good advice, I used the same rationale when I painted up an A-B set of E7s in the citrus scheme in HO scale. Unfortunately, EMD pulled a switch with these units. The yellow region does *not* come to a point on the roof, but instead does a semi-circular curve. The funny part is, there was some striping in Microscale's decal set that I couldn't figure out anything to do with...until I saw a picture of the top of the units. My books are still packed so I don't have a picture handy. However, Carey's pictures <see below> should show it clearly.Henry

RE: Need an E7

Seaboard Air Line E4 were numbered 3000-3013 and ran in the citrus scheme until about 1957 and then were repainted into the mint green scheme. There were 4 E4B units 3100-3104. SAL also had E6 3014-3016, E7 3014-3016, E7B 3105-3107, and E8 3049-3059 which all ran in the citrus scheme. The dark color on those engines in Pullman green.Carey

Wow! This is great, Carey! That bit of route really needs to be built! I am fast becoming enamored with the Silver Meteor which served both Tampa and St. Petersburg, I think.I am also learning what a special and innovative railroad the SAL was. Count me interested!Mike

RE: Need an E7

Hey Rick,That looks pretty sharp! For a first effort you really know how to leap in with reckless abandon! Once you're finished, you can work on the variation for the E8s. IIRC, they were delivered with black roofs to save on painting costs/maintenance. The same thing was true for the FTs.I look forward to seeing the finished results.Henry

New Post & ???'s

Hi Henry,I was just thinking today about the advisability of picking a paint sceem such as this one to start out. Why not something is basic black? Oh well!We will have to see where this one goes before I think about another. Having said that, I am attaching an updated image. It looks like this is an E8 with the steeper nose or am I losing it. If it is an E8 then maybe I should do the black roof. Of course, that could be interpreted as taking the easy way out.If any one can help me with a small problem or two I would appreciate it.1> There is a small crack just to the rear of the fuel tank running from top to bottom. I have checked my drawings and made sure that they are 2048 pixels and that the output I am using is 512 pixels. Anything else that I should look at?2> I cannot find some items such as the ladder in front of the fuel tank or the beveled flanges on either side of the fuel tank. Any suggestions?

Rick
