Feb-04-02, 10:53 PM (EST) "Re-skinning buildings" I am looking to add some color to the default houses and buildings.
Copied and pasted the .s, .sd and .ace files. Renamed them to
US2BluHse.xx. Using the tgatool, converted abd repainted the .ace and converted back to an ace file. Did the .ref file and placed everything back into the correct spots. The house shows up in my objects list, but is still the original color. Am I missing something?I plan on several projects using this type of procedure if it is workable.
Thanks for any help!Bob Staples Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-05-02, 02:49 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Re-skinning buildings" Hi,You're going too fast for my old brains.
You said you renamed the .ace files?
But I don't read you changed the .s file. When you change the .ace filename, you have to change the .s file to "pick up" the right .ace file.
I have done a very little repaint of a building, but without changing the name of the .ace file and that works fine. But when you change the name of the .ace file, you need to change the .s file. Decompile it and somewhere you will find the reference to the .ace file. Change it and compile the .s file.Dick van den Hoven

Feb-05-02, 09:48 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Re-skinning buildings" I changed the .sd file to the correct .s name, however when I open the .s file with Wordpad its just stuff. What do you mean by decompile it? Sorry I'm not familiar with that.
I followed the same pattern of renaming files as with freight cars, etc.Bob S Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-06-02, 01:22 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Re-skinning buildings" YOu need to use ffeditc_unicode.exe (UTILS folder) to decompress the .s file. I think the command line is something like this:ffeditc_unicode oldfile.ace /u newfile.ace(Substitute your file for oldfile.ace and newfile.ace)You should then be able to open it in Wordpad and change the reference to the ace file.Ron Paludan

Feb-06-02, 01:19 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Re-skinning buildings" Hi,You have to do that command that Ron gives, in a DOS box.
For your convenience copy the whole ffedit subfolder to the root of the C: otherwise you have to do cd, cd after cd.To open a DOS, use Start > Run. Now type command on the line and press Enter. Do several cd.. commands until you see C:> prompt.
Now type cd ffedit and you see a C:\ffedit> promptBefore this you have to copy the .s file to the ffedit folder.
And when you are on the C:\ffedit> prompt, you can type in the command of Ron.But if is a way too high for you, say or e-mail me (email address is in my profile, so click the email button of this response) the name of the .s file, the route from which it is taken, and which .ace file is renamed to which name, I can do the job for you and send you the .s file back.Dick van den Hoven
