It seems that over 90% of the photos of railroad equipment and structures are shot at an angle, rather than side or end-on. Not ideal for creating textures. I have managed to get very good results however by using a 3D program to rotate the images to a perpendicular viewpoint. (As an example, see the Rail Box skin at my site: http://www.railwaystation.com/trainsim/index.html)The program that I use is called "Canoma", which is unfortunately out of print. The program was designed to create 3D objects from photographs. I purchased in hopes of creating simple 3d structures for my artwork and perhaps for MSTS. But I've found that it is perfect for deriving skins from angled photographs. It usually only takes a minute or two for me to "rotate" and image. All I have to do is pin the corners of a 3-D wireframe on the corners of an object, then use a "virtual trackball" to rotate the image so that it is perpendicualr to the view.I have considered writing a tutorial, but my guess is that very few of us have the program and it is very difficult and expensive to find. I would consider doing conversions for others if they want to send me images - time permitting. I would also like to hear about other programs that can perform similar manipulations.Ron Paludan
