A Little Help from the Activity Builders, Please – image 1

I am part of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and I spend time with a 13 year oid young man, Greg, that loves computer games and trains. He loves it when I let him play with MSTS. He doesn't have the patience for a LONG or complex activity. He has never seen passenger trains, so got very tired of them. Ron P. made an activity for his Timesaver Route and I was happy, but the stupid computer crashes every time we try to use the front coupler. That's even frustrating to me, much less Greg. Is there SOMEONE out there who is adept at making activities who would put together a EASY activity, with a couple of set outs, and a couple of pick ups? Something that uses the default routes and cars, or lists what we need to add. Something that could be completed within a 30-45 minute timeframe. Greg is a great kid, but he can't work at something for longer than that. Thanks a lot. I realize I am asking an awful lot. I can't figure out how to work the Activity Editor or I would do this myself. I have trouble still installing add-ons at times. Any questions, email me off list. Jeff

There are a fair number of freight and passenger activities in the library that meet your criteria. Or is there some specific route(s) that you would like to have activities for? Paul

Try ponV6.zip from the file library. It's an add on route designed for switching & way freight activities, all the included activities use nothing but default trains. Easy winzip self extractor, totally idiot proof, almost impossible to screw up the installation. (Don't let the small zipfile size fool you, it's a much bigger route than it looks. It was originally 23 megabytes as packaged by Route Riter, but I'm the undisputed champ of efficiency in packaging and I used all my tricks to squeeze the zip down that small.)All the activities that come with it are "freestyle", or "open ended", there's no pop up windows, no schedules, no time limits. Make up your own work orders and pick up and set out whatever cars you want. I personally like to use the front coupler when there's a car on a facing point spur (in spite of the occasional lockups ), my brother either passes by those cars or uses one of many wyes to turn the engine around on. The possible variations are endless, using the same starting point you can pick up/set out different cars, take alternate paths to the same or different destinations, play for a few minutes or a few hours.
