Werner or anyone with a similar problem,When I approach Lehighton or try to start there, the "Send/Don't Send" box pops up. Is there a glitch in a scenery item there?
It is the only problem I have discovered to date. BTW, I was in the summer season, so it is not related to the snow texture patch, which I did install anyway.
What a great route!!Bob Staples

Bob,
i started at or drove thru Lehighton at least 25 times during the past 5 days alone without problems. Does somebody else get that problem? Have you tried to approach from different directions? There are also 3 different starting points at Lehighton/Packerton. Where exactly does it happen?Werner

Werner,It happens when you hear the computer hard drive chatter trying to load the scenery for the area from any direction or starting there from the origin menu selection. There may be a bad file?My compliments to you on a beautiful route. It certainly brings back memories of the 1970's when I spent almost every weekend up there. Many thanks for the great work!Bob Staples

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

Hm, looks like there is a bad file or something. There aren't any objects that aren'nt somewhere else, too, on the route, so i gues it could be a problem with that tile. Have you tried reinstalling it? The first zip contains all that, the other two are just ace files, i don't think that they could cause that. It seems that nobody else gets that problem, so maybe the zip file is corrupted?
Oh, and thank you very much for the kudos. The greatest compliment for me is to hear that it brings back memories to you. I never saw the Lehigh Valley or CNJ in real life, and when i was in Lehighton for the first time in 1996 all that was left was one single track.Werner

Hi Werner,On another note, does the LV route have any coal mine? Just something I wanted to know before I download it again. Thanks.

Jake,
no, there is no coal mine in the route. To have an anthracite breaker included would be great, but so far the route hasn't reached the anthracite fields (yet?)Werner

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

Werner,I unzipped the tiles and the World files again and have the same result. I may reconsider downloading the file again in case something happened during the download time ( 4 hours! ).
Lehighton was closed shortly after the CNJ lines takeover in 1972. I didn't get up there until 1973, so I missed the CNJ in Pennsylvania.
The LV closed all of their smaller yards and consolidated everything at the ex-CNJ yard at Allentown. Lehighton remained only as a crew change point for the Apollo's and Mercury trains that bypassed Allentown.
Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts on my crash problem, I welcome any suggestions.Bob Staples
http://www.thebluecomet.comPS. In about two to three weeks I will have a Delaware and Hudson page added to my web site, which will include several pictures from the area represented by your route.

Thanks for the files, Werner. Unfortunateley it did not clear up the problem. This reply perhaps may be viewed by someone with other thoughts on a solution. Could it be with the XTracks?

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

I just downloaded the whole thing a week ago and I'm very impressed. I'd rank it up there with the Ohio Rail and Newark & Jersey City for freeware routes (looks much better than Sandpatch). However, I've never seen a route that eats frames like this one does. I can run western routes at 50-60 fps and eastern at 20-30 fps but this one brings my computer to its knees. I'm lucky to get 10 and more likely 6 or 7 fps. Is this common to everyone or do I have some problem with the load? It does randomly crash also but not with any consistency. I'm using TrainStore so it isn't because of alot of routes or consists.

I have to agree. With a long train and some consists scattered around to work with, I get no more than 3fps! I have to admit my puter is slow, but that is just a bit on the low side. I won't give it up as this is of an area I have a great interest in and perhaps someday I will get a faster hard drive. Now if I can only to Lehighton!Bob Staples

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

Regarding the framerate in this route, I think that's just something you have to consider a tradeoff. As the old saying goes, "you can't have your cake and eat it too." (I know, it's a lame cliche, but I thought it fit.) There were some places on the route where I got really low FPS, but then again my computer is about 3 years old now and it is getting slow by today's standards (although I've made a few small upgrades, and I'm at 192mb of RAM now). The Illinois Central route was also pretty hard on my system, but the designer did warn people about that. The IC is another excellent route, too. I think the LV route is awesome and I would rather route builder's create highly detailed routes like LV, than cripple them for slower PC's. Also, I had all the graphics options turned all the way up, so that was probably another reason for the slow framerates. If you are really having problems with freezing or bad FPS, try to turn down some of your graphics options, or preferably, see what you can do to get your pc to run faster. Add more RAM, defragment your hard drive, etc. A newer video card definitely helps. (I've been getting along for a LONG time with my 16mb Voodoo 3dfx card that's over three years old! I finally got a 32mb Asus card and that helped a LOT!) Any upgrades you can make and you'll notice a huge difference.

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

And despite all the wonderful work that Werner has put into this route - remember, you can always consider it (as I do), just a starting point.
That is, I've been tinkering with the route, making my own changes, adding/subtracting/changing scenery etc., to suit my own needs.....and in some cases, a reduction in object count per tile will result (which doesn't necessarily mean less attractive scenery - just done differently). In fact, I can recall a message I received from Werner while beta-testing the route, in which he remarked that he released the route with relatively sparse areas just for that reason - so the public would have the enjoyable experience of "dressing it up" for themselves.for me, it's just my own way of making the route "my own".Have fun,
Mark

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

To return to the original subject matter, here is what I have done so far. Deleted the route entirely and re-installed it. Re-installed those tiles that Werner sent as replacements for the Lehighton area.
I lowered the sliders down to zero scenery in case it was a scenery object all without any fix. The only thing I have to test is the RE.
I downloaded and installed Xtracks v3.5. The Readme calls for 3.3 or higher. Is there something different in 3.5 vs. 3.3 that would cause an error message? Could it be the turntable at Lehighton?Bob Staples

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

Werner,Yes I did. I took the RE for a trip along the river and found several files that did not load, including 3 terrtex .ace files (concrete.ace & US2scrubrock2.ace & US2Tarmac.ace), 2 .sms files(gen_dc_res2.sms & gen_dc_res2_s.sms) and a few .s files (US2debris.s & US2debrissleeper.s & CsPDpt3.s & 405wash.s & HkCmplxBldg1.s). I copied and pasted the ones I could get from the default routes and deleted the others.
I must have a bad download or something. Even in the RE, once I get to Lehighton that infamous Error Report box pops up. Are you certain there are no objects or tracks section located there that are not anywhere else? Perhaps a freight car?
Sorry to be a pest, but as you can judge from my web site this route is something I really can relate to.Bob Staples

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-03 AT 08:13 AM (EDT)

Bob,
don't mind bothering me, i really want to help you! There are a few cars in the Lehighton area, but they have been there before the upgrade, so they shouldn't be the problem... If a shape file would be missing you would get a message when loading the route. Everything else contained in the first zip i already sent you. The third zip contains snow, night, and spring textures. What is left is the second zip file with the ace files.
When i unzip it it shows the following attributes: 95 files, 2 folders, 28.0 MB, 28.2 MB on disk.
Check it and compare that to yours, maybe that zip was corrupted during download.
It also seems that the install.bat didn't work properly, as several files from the default routes are missing. You can open it with the wordpad utility and check if everything is there, it isn't too much.Werner

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

Werner,I may have to download everything again. I went to change a switch from automatic to manual in the Nazereth area (EL) and when I opened the track sections to find the manual switch, an error box popped up looking for concrete4.ace. I looked through every file and could not find this .ace file. The size of each of the first 4 original files Ihave is as follows: ( Still zipped!)
1. 40,950-683 files
2. 35,129-1219 files
3. 31,944-399 files
4. 42,678-473 files
If this is short on any one file, can someone let me know. This was taken from the tempoary folder I place all downloaed files and not from the MSTS folder itself.Bob Staples

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

Bob,
concrete4.ace belongs to some tracks with concrete ties. They are part of XTracks, but not used in my route, therefore you don't find the file. When in the route editor just don't check the "show pictures" option (or however it reads in English) when you select track or road pieces. With everything else there are no problems.
It looks like the second zip is short of one file. My count is 1220 files. I'll send you a privat mail about it. The rest seems ok.
Btw.: I understood that you had the problems with the update. Did you already have them with the original route??Werner

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

Werner,I sent you an e-mail, but I will post what happened for anyone else that may be following this. I downloaded the L&NE Alco FA the other night and went to create a consist and got the "Send, Don't Send" box.
I checked everything and was unable to get it to work. I went looking at some of the screen shots in the other forum last night and saw a LV FA set sitting in Lehighton on John Roth's shots. Hmmmmmm.
The FA would not work and there is an FA at Lehighton that does not work... Could it be....
Sure enough, I deleted all reference to the LV FA's and now I can run through Lehighton.
Now to get those FA's running! Must be something in the .s,.sd or .ace files, but??
My screen below is of two CNJ SD-40's passing the LV roundhouse.

RE: Crash at Lehighton-LV Route

Halleluja, you got it! It stays mysterious, though, nobody else complained about the FAs or had problems (at least i don't know about it).
The ace are different on both machines (LNE and LV), so i think the s or sd files are the problem.
I'm glad you got it running, now enjoy riding!Werner
