Well, I'm still working at it. I'm not done yet (and probably never will be), but I'll declare it releaseable (that's not a word, is it?) soon enough. It's going to be a modular thing, so if you don't have anything better to do with a tile, you can make some purty corn, or if you need the space, there's a big corn-like box to slap down behind a couple rows and sorta make it look like there's a whole field there. I haven't begun to address seasonal textures yet, so it's currently as green and tall midwinter as it is midsummer. I'll probably release it without this initially and then supply an update later. That way, anyone who wants it can start placing it and just not run in the winter until it's done. So far, I've got 125m x 5m (row) sections, a 125x125 box, a 636x5 row section, and I'm going to start on the 636x636 box soon. (in case you're curious, 636x636m is roughly 100 acres)some of the 636x5 sections placed next to each other (stupid tree):

A small suggestion, which I had included in my initial version, is that you find a way to stagger the rows. Look how they form patterns. Real corn looks much more random than that. (I don't mean along the length of the rows, I mean as you move perpendicular to the rows. Also, farmers tend to run rows parallel to the edge of the field, so try to plant some rows at 90 degrees, on the ends of the rows.More corn – image 6

Here are some pics I found, which may help with autumn textures.
If you are interested, I will send you the better quality image, or the individual images that you want.More corn – image 9

RE: more corn

What are the chances of getting some with 'CROP CIRCLES' in them. It would go great with the flying saucers!Martyn T. Griffin

Mike:
regarding the pattern, that's why I said it needed more texture work. I made that one in about 3 minutes - I was just trying for color matching.I haven't decided if I want to do just dry corn or harvested corn for the autumn texture yet. So I don't know which images I'd want.Martyn:
That'd be considerably more work, since it would interfere with the easy repetitiveness of the corn. I could try it, but I'll put it at the bottom of the list of stuff I want to do, so who knows when I'd get to it.

RE: more corn

Scott; These look great. If I can put my 2 cents in on the other seasons; what you have for summer, brown stalks for fall, winter just dirt, spring short green stalks. As an alternate to winter and spring, winter dirt with stalks on ground and spring with tilled dirt. Thanks, can't wait to get these in the IC.

In this case I think tilling is going to be easier than no-till.
The ground texture is tiled (in 1m x 1m sections, I think), so getting that to not look silly with stalks lying there would be difficult. Spring should be easy - whole lotta transparent, not much visible. Might not be able to do spring until next spring though unless I can find some suitable pictures.

Scott,Don't waste your time on it, I was just kidding. On the other hand, a partially transparent plane could be painted up and placed on top by anyone who wishes.Martyn T. Griffin

RE: more corn

That looks great. No doubt in my mind that's a cornfield. It doesn't bother me that there's no "imperfections" in it, I spend most of my time looking at the trains anyway, not the passing cornfields.Jeff Leslie
